Mexican - Alfredo Contreras 11-7-1 Would have thought GoldenBoy would have got him someone better than one who has already lost to Lemieux and McEwan http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=322558&cat=boxer
**** poor waste of ****ing time but we are used to it now. I'm sure someone could justify this with some lame **** like he needs rounds or this guy is tall etc Groves is the Commonwealth champ fighting for a promotion who consider themselves and are considered the UFC of boxing. I'd like to see a tough match up.
They need a knockout for the Yank TV to show off this "new kid from England", Groves labouring to a points win against a better opponent would probably cost him the exposure a clip on HBO will generate.
Not really, the fight is on the undercard of Marquez-Diaz (is that on HBO or Showtime?) but I think the general idea is that he looks good, gets a highlight clip inbetween fights and generates a bit of exposure in the USA
I agree. That opponent had nearly as many losses as wins but was hard as nails, and would easily be in our top 10..... and would have beaten Adamu probably. If the fights with Smith/Magee can't be made then get him on some cards in Germany - they won't make the DeGale fight yet for obvious reasons -() and the rest of the domestic scene is average at best.
yeah yeah, things are looking pretty good for him really. Is he with Golden boy now then ? Thought he was with Hayemaker ?
When the opponent was announced a few weeks back the McEwan-Groves angle was what struck me first. It won't mean much but at least its an angle.
is this one getting shown over here. this is the sort of show that sky would have bought in years gone by.
Pretty shite opponent, but I wasn't expecting much anyway. Like most of you have said it's pretty much just a showcase fight.
