This is a fascinating match up. Watching Groves coming through, you knew he had something. DeGale is a quality operator too. On paper DeGale should win but given Groves last poor performance, people may be writing him off prematurely. Until that fight he was golden. DeGale has performed really well as a pro. The fact that Groves beat DeGale as an amateur is, to my mind, irrelevant. But to the boxers it may make them overextend, to prove a point. It may be a meaningless fight on the world stage, but i am really looking forward to this. Because of the senseless trash-talking: heart says Groves, head says DeGale. I just hope it lives up to the billing.
What I keep thinking, is if they've sparred so many times as amateurs, then how come De Gale aint referencing how he used to dominate Groves in sparring? cause if he has done that, you would of thought he would of been more vocal about it, I know this is pro Boxing, but still........
He's said a few times he bashed him up in sparring and toyed with him. *Cue someone saying how comes he didn't do that in AM' fight* Before anyone says that, I had it 3-1 to DeGale on my last viewing of the bout and i think he's a more aggressive fighter now in Pro Game.
Good point. The difference IMO is he can throw shots and keep himself pretty tucked up at the same time, or at least position himself so that can evade punches. The key thing is he has the capability to punch straight in a fight like this and accentuate his advantage in that respect. Groves seems a bit stuck; he just doesn't have the same physiology as James and throw shots without putting himself in line of fire.
I do agree with this point. I think that DeGale is a superb defensive fighter and that Groves leaves himself way too open at times. So there is an unknown element to this fight, because we all wonder, does Groves have Degale's number? There is also the element of the genuine hate between them both due to Degale wanting to prove he is the better fighter despite being spanked in sparring, and Groves wanting to prove he was unjustly looked over. It has all the components of being the best since Eubank-benn. I cannot wait.
nah, stoppage was sound imo, Anderson was completely gone from the body shots he had taken, maybe a little pro-active from the referee.
Groves has been tested, DeGale not. Groves can punch, DeGales not really been hit. I think Groves has really prepared for this with real hard work. I think DeGale has this attitude where he may want people to dislike him, it's ideal if some want to see you win and others want you to lose, that's the way you get big views. I think DeGale will win, but I'd rather Groves turns up the style in this fight and is next best thing. More importantly, I hope it's a great fight for the fans. :good
Credit where it is due mate. You hinted at the right result? You bet on it? Interesting to see that George is now counting out a rematch and saying he will be taking a direct route to a world title and degale will be taking a more indirect route. Right on in that tactic, Groves is a very well managed fighter and i want to see him go all the way now.
Personally in the AM fight i found rounds 1,2,3 easy to score to DeGale. That's my feeling on that bout personally. I sat with my father and he watched it alongside me and scored it the same. TBH that fights gone now and they did again last night. Not much splitting them that's for sure. Evenly matched guys. Ps. I didn't say he toyed with him, just pointed out what he said in build in responding to Gooners point.
