I think he had genuine power... however anytime a fighters career is cut short or is shorter than most believe it should have been you get two extremes. The first extreme is they were overrated. The second is they could have decapitated Godzilla with a jab. The truth lay somewhere in the middle. There was Power to be sure, but no monster puncher. Elite power, nothing more.
I'd rate his power in the devastating category at that weight, along with Hearns, Mugabi, Benn, Jackson.
Pendelton whom I saw fight many times had some decent wins. Baptiste doesn't have one. Baptiste was also a small jr middleweight , Mccllean was a big middleweight, that had the frame to fight lt.heavyweight succesfully. In summary , a small club fighter at the end of his career , fighting a much bigger hard punching World Champion. Mccllean only did what he was supposed to do.
