Pretty much forgot ggg was fighting this weekend until a co-worker reminded me. haven't even seen any threads talking about the fight....interesting approach, this new low-key style of building up fights. i'm very curious about what direction it will take the sport of boxing.

It seems some of the momentum around GGG has slowed down a little bit. I'm not sure if it happened with the announcement of Wade when everyone was wanting/expecting Canelo but there definitely seems to be less of a buzz around GGG over the last couple of months.

At the end of last year he was doing commercials for Apple etc and seemed to be getting himself known, but without that big name, I wonder if his popularity has reached it's ceiling. He's doing all the right things - getting himself seen at Nascar, Dodger games etc but you'd never know it was fight week with how quiet it is.

May just be because of the opponent who really has no chance.

Theres no reason to draw any attention to this fight. The GGG team seemed disappointed with having to go the mandatory route instead on getting a unification anyway. Though on a commercial basis the GGG train hasn't slowed any. You mentioned the Apple ad that happened a while ago but forget GGG just got sponsored by Nike.

    Good ticket sales though apparently

unlike too many boxers in the US, he has built a loyal following over there on the West coast

despite the opponent, people still want to go out and see him fight
