If anyone knows anything about the middleweights of the 1930s,the answer would be apparent. Billy Conn,at the age of TWENTY was thrown in the ring by his BRAVE manager
against the likes of Fritzie Zivic,Babe Risko, Vince Dundee, Oscar Rankins,Teddy Yarosz, Young Corbett, Solly Krieger, and Fred Apostoli, all top experienced fighters who young Billy Conn beat. They were superior to any of Giardello's opponents I believe.I saw a 20 year old Giardello get flattened by my neighbor Harold Green in 1950.
Billy Conn thrashes Giardello at middleweight. That is no knock on Giardello, but just shows how good Handsome Billy was a a middleweight...

Robert,Billy Conn was a GREAT middleweight who was thrown into a cauldron of great middleweights, even a tough Fritzie Zivic, at age nineteen.
I would bet my last meal on the calibre of fighter Conn was at 160 pounds
as many of the guys such as Teddy Yarosz,Solly Krieger and Fred Apostoli
were all top fighters who fought in the 1930s. And Billy beat them all, and would be much too fast for the methodical Giardello. I take Yarosz,Apostoli and the forgotten power punching Krieger, over Giardello, who I saw several times in NY. Cheers.
