I hope holyfield loses, because if he manages to win, that means more fights, more brain damage, more slurred speech etc. Maybe if he loses, he might just finally retire and save himself becoming a vegtable.

Valuev is a FRAUD, he got rocked by barrett (the same guy Haye destroyed),and only managed to stop him very late after Barrett was tired from Valuev leaning on him all night.

    Yes, please go. Just...go.

Foreman knocks out the linear and two-belt champion Michael Moorer.
Holyfield beats someone that isn't linear champ, only holds one belt, and got that one without beating the former holder to get it (who inflicted a defeat on Valuev the previous time).

Sure Holy is worse off than Foreman in '94, but still the achievement isn't on the same page. So long as they keep giving Grampa Holyfield undeserved title shots he may eventually win one, but all it's going to earn him is a bigger beating.

Holyfield will never again be THE MAN. Foreman was, Valuev isn't.
It's just not going to happen...and I personally don't think anything post-Byrd is really worthy of his record. I don't rate going 12 with Ibragimov as a highlight of his career.

This whole fight pisses me off six ways from Sunday. I can't blame Holyfield, he'll desperately grab at whatever lifeline is offered, but it's a disgrace all round regardless of who wins.

Just think back to Holyfield's first fight at heavyweight against James "Quick" Tillis and look where he's at now. That was a long time ago.

If Holyfield has someone stand in front of him he can operate no matter how shot he is. Byrd, Toney, Donald, and Ibragimov were all movers. Valuev will be there. If Holyfield wins this fight he can retire and his legend will soar like there is no tomorrow. It's highly unlikely but at the same time nothing is written in stone. We really don't know who's gonna win on December 20th. For old time sake, all of Holyfield's fans need to get behind him and just put the jokes aside. No need to insult the guy and talk about who's more deserving cuz the fight's already made. If 2008 was a bad year for you I guarantee you that a Holyfield win will make it all better.

    :thumbsup

Holyfield beating Valuev will be on par with Foreman beating Moorer, IMO.
It's a greater comeback for a start, considering all his losses, his ban, the fact that he's "shot" about 10 times over. Also, Valuev's record is good, and since Holyfield has spent much of his heavyweight career being labelled "too small" and "blown-up cruiser" it would be impressive to beat this 7 foot 330 pound giant with a 49-1 record regardless of other factors.
Valuev is rated by many as top 5 or top 3 in the world at the moment. If ANYONE was to beat him it would be considered a "good win" at the very least. If Holyfield could beat him it's his best win since 1997, and possibly the greatest heavyweight comeback of all-time.

This fight doesn't **** me off at all. Valuev has a habit of fighting undeserving challengers - Beck and Barrett had similar lack of credentials. Wlad Klitschko is going up against Rahman ! Maskaev held his WBC title for ages and defended against Peter Okhello. The list of dubious challenges for heavyweight titles in recent years goes on and on. It's easy to single out Holyfield, but evn shot he's on a par with most of these other clowns.

If Holyfield gets in the same shape he was in against Sultan I dont expect to see him getting a bad beating. He might do, but Valuev is very slow and not a particular sharp or powerful puncher, he's not exactly a dynamic and youthful fighter. It figures to be 12 rounds fought in slow-mo. I'd favour Valuev but I wouldn't be surprised if Holyfield could outbox him.
And that would rank as a magnificient comeback win for the ages.

I'll be rooting for Evander, I really hope he beats Valuev because then he has reached his goal and can retire.

Whoever is promoting this event, should be thrown in Jail. Valuev does not want this fight, and does not want to hurt Evander. This fight is wrong for so many reasons.

Even if I strongly disapprove of this fight, I can't keep myself from rooting for old man Holyfield. And I know that I will watch the fight even if I should boycott it. Plus a victory for Holyfield would be the just reward for Valuev and Sauerland, it's a shame they want that fight.

BTW, do you remember Valuev stating this fight was ridiculous only a couple months ago?

Man,I'd really like and want for Evander to win but this is such a big mismatch that I'm not gonna really make my hopes up.

Basically I agree with you, however I have to point out that Toney was standing in front of Holy all night long and still the old man couldn't touch him. Only Toney can do that.
Holyfield still has a chance against every fighter that doesn't move fast on his feet, however I fear Valuevs reach advantage will be too much and Holyfield will have a hard time getting past that jab. Well, **** it, GO HOLYFIELD!!!

I know and anyone with more than one brain cell knows who will win. This thread is just sad. People like you are the reason these disgusting match-up happen because even if you say this fight shouldn't happen the promoters know you will be watching and saying the 80 year old Holyfield can still do it.

Answer: None of the above. People will just chalk it up to the supposed shitty state of the heavyweieght division.

That said, I'm still cheering for Evander! Go Real Deal!!! :happy
