He plays X Factor winner Shayne Ward, who has Irish Gypsy bareknuckle roots & was Gomez's main sparring partner for nearly 4 years.
The film died the minute Arthur suffered another defeat. That stupid Gomez win over Arthur has to be one of the most overrated fights in british boxing history, Arthur fought like a moron, Gomez won & all of a sudden it was "Gomez the jock slayer! What a fighter, what a man!!!" Then Gomez lost, & Arthur lost. Then Gomez lost again, & Arthur lost again. All of a sudden reality bites, & this 'movie' was binned due to Gomez being nothing more than a journeyman, who beat an undefeated scotsman who at the end turned out not to be up to much either. Maybe I will make a movie about Ricky Burns, how he slayed the beast that was Michael Gomez Seriously, a film about Michael Gomez, you couldnt make it up.
I remember watching the trailer for this in a well known manchester gym and all the people who were in it were there including some who werent(andy from emmerdale was with Gomez, strange) and I thought then that it would never actually happen and it didnt.
Even if you consider him a "journeyman", surely he's had an interesting enough life to be turned into a film?
