What are some good books to read to learn more about things like fighting styles, defensive techniques, etc?

I don't know, but **** that manga **** (japanese comics). One kid at my gym was into them, and he was tryin all sorts of ****ed up **** that didn't work. I didn't mind him too much, but when he was trying that ****, I was just so bent on hurting him, just to show how stupid and idiotic it was to try and learn boxing from ****ing japanese comic books.

On a separate note (sorry if this offends anyone, but anyone i've ever known that was into Manga, or anime was a total dork...not saying EVERYONE who reads it is...just that everyone I've known that does).

I'm vaguely aware of that manga series and it's not realistic at all , just a dumb kid I guess. I've seen some really good anime series and films myself and I'm not a dork if I do say so myself. Being a fan does have some negative connotations with some people.

For a long time I collected instructional boxing books and, by far, the best overall book I am aware of is the Edwin L Haislet book. When I was young Henry Cooper's book was a huge influence on me. Also, during the 1950s and early 1960s there were many books published by the boxing teams of US universities. A lot of it is pretty much the same but in just about every one of them you'll pick up something, even if it is just a different way of teaching (or learning) the same thing.
