The former lightweight and junior lightweight champion was scheduled for a return bout in his home of Austin against Daniel Attah last night in hopes of bringing his three-loss skid to a halt, but apparently the card was scrapped and it is rumored that he is going to pack it in, rather than go down the sad road of Luis Ramon Campas and so many others who couldn't stay away. He was a warrior in and out of the ring who gave us some memorable battles and deserves to be remembered for more than just the Johnson tragedy (or his ultimately unsuccessful comeback). Respect.
Last week I picked up STANDING EIGHT: The Inspiring story of Jesus Chavez...............for 50 cents at my local library. Very fun read. One of those boxers who IMO accomplished more than he should have with the talent he was given. A Warrior for sure!
A couple of days ago i saw his fight with Juan Arias and what a fight that was,it was one of the many battles Jesus gave to the fans. Wish him all the best.
As great as his war with Morales was, I like the fight with Carlos Hernandez was even greater. Hopefully he finds peace of mind and happiness in retirement.
I'll never forget the DEVASTATING knockout Nate Campbell delivered to Attah (pretty sure it's not on Youtube, too bad for those who never saw it), which was quite a while ago now. I'm surprised Attah is still fighting as well.
