Great athlete who boxed

I once held the world record in the shot put. I played in the National Football League on a famous championship team. But in boxing my winning streak was snapped when I was knocked out by a man who later went on to fight for the heavyweight championship. Who am I?

He lost to Abe Simon, who went on to challenge Louis twice for the HW championship.

I thought he would be a little tougher to get.

 

It's one of the only ones that I thought I knew right away, just had to check it was right.
