A Galento wormhole somehow got me to this Russian fight page which has some amazing pictures, quite a few I have never seen before... Especially awesome are some of the Langford ones and a couple ringside Dempsey-Willard shots... Actually, I think that Max Baer vs Pat Comisky photo is from the movie The Harder They Fall and not from their actual fight. In the movie, Pat Comisky plays a guy who has just fought the champ (played by Baer) and he's so badly beaten that he dies when he fights the Toro character (who is a fictionalized version of Primo Carnera). The movie was made shortly before Baer died. I watched it not too long ago and he (Baer) looked really old in the film. That's where I think that's from. Not their actual fight.
I just looked at a clip of their real fight, and they have different trunks on, Comiskey wasn't cut like that, and Dempsey is the ref. So I'm sure that's from the movie. It was odd they chose Baer for the role. He is in terrible shape playing basically himself 22 years earlier. By comparison, Jersey Joe Walcott plays Toro's trainer in the movie. And Walcott is ripped in the film. It is a strange movie. Check it out of you get the chance.
Great stuff!!! But, with my prejudice showing, it looks like Jerry is having his way with Floyd. After losing the first round to Jerry (slow start) he got decked twice in the 2nd, the second KD a Sunday Shot which left Floyd in a puddle. Glass jaw? No way; he finishes the round and proceeds to kick Quarry's ass the rest of the fight. Cut him badly on the eye and then laid off said eye (jeez Floyd, don't you want to finish a fight when you have a guy in deep trouble?) Floored Jerry in the 6th? with a left hook. Played cigar store Indian in the 9th and 10th to let Quarry salvage a draw. Should have won the 2nd without all his passive BS. Should have beat Ellis. And still there are people who refuse to regard Patterson as a hall of famer despite his accomplishments? atsch Sorry for getting off thread.
