Saad-Lopez 2 was a great fight. If you want a horrible Ring magazine fight of the year, go to 1977 and look how they picked Young-Foreman over Saad-Johnson 1.
What about the two trilogies between Robinson and Lamotta?Personally, I favor their first trilogy. The second Trilogy was all Robinson.
What does that have to do with the last two fights with Gatti not being competitive? That trilogy, while enjoyable, is overrated. One great fight, one good one, and one okay one, with just one competitive bout. Ward won like 6 or 7 of the 30 rounds in those fights. He got schooled in the last 2 bouts. The 2nd best fight of the trilogy, the 3rd fight, wouldn't make my top 5 list of best Gatti fights or top 5 Ward fights.
Ward won 4 rounds at most in the first bout (rounds 4-5, 8-9), maybe 1 round in the 2nd fight, and 2 in the last fight. The 2 he won in the 3rd fight were when Gatti injured his hand, and when he dropped Gatti at the end of round 6 after losing the first 2:55 of the round. That was not an especially close or competitive trilogy. Bowe-Holyfield wasn't especially close but Gatti-Ward made it look like Barrera-Morales in terms of closeness.
