Alf Marson lol ! WTF did he ever beat?
13 men with losing records and 3 debutees.
    Stopped by
    Jim Quigley 10-7-0
    George Muir 0-1-0
    Paddy O Sullivan 1-1-0
    Whoop de doo!
The 11 and 3/4lbs lighter Cerdan floored Gilroy7 times before knocking him out.

Cerdan 111-4-0 Stopped once with a dislocated arm. Won French .European, and World Middleweight Titles.
    Beat
    Zale
    Abrams
    Roach
    Walczack
    Green
    Raadik
    Williams
    Delannoit
    Charron
And he doesn't make my top ten . All Time Middles.

Gilroy 89- 26-9 Stopped 10 times. Beat Who? One good win ,over Ginger Sadd .Sadd was briefly the Ring's no 10 at the end of 1938 ,he lost to Gilroy in1940 and had not won any of his last 4 fights.
    Won What ?
Scottish Middle Title Beat Johnny Clements 34-23-1 on a DSQ .
Clements record is 45-46-3 he was ko'd 21 times!
Scottish Lhvy Title Beat Jock McCusker who scaled162 1/lbs and his record was 45-34-4
The difference between a great fighter and a good one could not be more palpably apparent!
You family loyalty is touching but misplaced.
Klompton destroyed you on this issue years ago, there is no need for me to follow suit, nor would I wish to,have a nice Sunday!

Obviously it's all down to individual opinion but in my own,Nigel does not come under the category of "Great"
I'm a big fan of Nigel's but I would refer to him as a very good fighter rather than great.
If there was a post regarding Brit boxers who were the most exciting, however,Nigel would be a major contender for top of the heap.

Assuming you consider him British, I don't think Fitz has any competition for the greatest p4p British fighter of all time.

Wilde doesn't have any competition for the next greatest.

After that, Ted Kid Lewis, Jim Driscoll, Freddie Welsh, Lennox Lewis, Jack Kid Berg, Benny Lynch, Owen Moran and Joe Calzaghe are all in the mix.

Yes. Being British is like being American, especially today. It’s a meeting pot.

Lets not forget that Britain dominated the first two centuries of boxing.

For me, Benn is an anomaly. He won a then 'nothing' title, the WBO against the teak tough Doug De Witt and then chose to defend it against Hearns conqueror Iran Barkley instead of immediately setting down the road of South American gatekeepers that the ITV budget would have allowed/encouraged him to do.

His wars with Watson and Eubank for me MAKE him a great, those guys were special and his victory over McLellan seems to have been diminished because of its horrific ending and because of our subsequent knowledge of the G-Man as a human being...but it should not be forgotten that he was one of the most feared fighters in the world when Benn beat him and Benn was a huge underdog.

Lastly, Benn has a huge HTH presence in both MW and SMW divisions. Would you bet against him beating anyone on his best day? Really? The excitement Benn brought meant win, lose or draw you always watched him from the back of the couch, through your fingers abd he was a real player in his divisions for many years so yes, I think he was a great and I doubt we will see his likes again.
