I dont get the fascination with Quarry, personally Id put Walcott, Machen, Bivins, Johansen, Schmelling, Folley and maybe even Doug Jones ahead of him I like the concept of a 200lb tourney though, great stuff :good
A contemporary of Quarry was Boone Kirkman who beat both Jones and Machen. Johansen was not in Quarry's league. A case could be made for some of the earlier heavyweights especially Schmeling but I watch old film of them on You Tube and they are nowhere near the skill level of Quarry. Had there been a cruiser division Quarry would have been the champion for a long time.

The Kirkman fights were the last for each of them in long tough careers and Jones also beat Kirkman. Johansen KOd Patterson who you have in your tourney. Not convinced Quarry would have reigned long as a cruiser king, a lot of 200lbers were around with him
I don't know what people have seen in Moore. He was cagey for sure but lost a lot of fights and went down in numerous ones. His legend was his longevity and ability to recuperate. Charles had his number. I would pick Tunney who only lost once in seventy plus fights.
He lost 23 fights, won 185 with 131 KO's (the most in the entire history of boxing), most of his losses coming at Heavyweight when he was past his prime. Charles lost 25 fights with less victories. Robinson lost 19 fights with fewer victories or KO's. Armstrong lost 21 fights with less victories. I could go on and on. Suffice it to say you didn't make very strong points. At all.
We are talking about within this under 200lb. tournament... The two important counter points that are relative: --Moore's losses were to men that he at least weighed identical with and in most cases he OUTWEIGHED. --Charles had Moore's number. The others you mentioned are not in the tournament.
Are you seeding 1 through 16? If that's the case I'd have to ask if you're intentioanlly seeding Vasily Jirov (David Haye too for that matter) higher than Bob Foster, Bob Fitzsimmons, and Archie Moore?
Yes. I struggle with Archie Moore after studying his record, opponents and watching numerous fights. Fitzsimmons is a hard one because we haven't seen him fight and can only compare to similar not very skilled boxing champions of his era. Foster was a great lightheavy but lost badly when he moved up.
