Dropping weight was still an option, it just hadn't been discussed then. Still, by the time Jones senior mentioned it and the time he actually dropped down was 3 years, so it's not as if he really took his advice. My main reason to believe that he didn't want out of the fight was that we've all seen how he reacts when he does want out of a fight. He was backed into a bigger corner the 2nd time around as he was the wba champ (or one of them) yet he still avoided a rematch. If he's willing to give up his belt, he'd have definitely given up his shot at a belt which in essence is what the first Kessler fight was. Hey hey, I'm not the one sooking about a thread hijack, that title belongs to Ash. :yep
