Groves: No rematch

    according to interview over on the scene

    Frank Warren has called on the BBBofC to grant James DeGale an immediate rematch against George Groves. DeGale lost his British super-middleweight title to Commonwealth champion Groves on Saturday night. But the fight ended controversially with Groves winning a contentious majority decision. The two judges who gave Groves the fight did so by a single round.

    A despondent DeGale - who slumped to his first professional defeat - also called for a return against his bitter London rival.

    "How can a challenger nick a fight on the back foot like that?" said DeGale. "I thought I hit him with the cleaner shots, I hurt him in the ninth round, and the last four rounds I won easy. He can't be proud of that win. He beat me, but he nicked it. I want a rematch as soon as, but we'll have to see what Frank and the Board do."

    But Groves insisted that he was under no obligation to give DeGale a rematch.

    "How many times do I have to beat this man? After this fight I'll go on to bigger and better things," he said. "He has no titles, he's just come off a loss, I'm pretty sure I can find a better opponent than James DeGale. I've always said, once I've finished with James DeGale I've cleared up the domestic scene and I'm looking at bigger and better things.

    "Possibly I can see it happening a few years down the line, when we've both got different versions of the world title. He's got a good promoter, I'm sure he can get there, he'll just have to take a different route from me. I'm taking a more direct one."

    Groves has no reason to fight Degale again. Degale needs Groves - Groves doesn't.

    HAHAHAHAH Well said "ugly kid"......... That ugly kid just beat your ass Degale :rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl I couldn't be happier for Groves :D I hope he goes for the European title,and then fights some contenders before going for an alphabet. :lol::lol:

    Degale needs to watch that 10th round as it was one of the clearest of the fight and in George's favour.

    I think that it was a close enough fight for a rematch but would rather it was left until it could be huge further down the line. That will hurt Degale mentally but sod him...

    yip the 10th for me showed that Groves was willing to dig in to get the win.

    I would also prefer that a rematch was left until further down the line.

    DeGale has made a right ass of himself :lol:

    Good comments from George there. He's beaten him twice (ams and pro). Why should he give him a re-match?

    Dont blame Groves, dont get me wrong I'd like there to be a rematch, but why now?
    Let them do it further down the line when there both champions (if they both get that far).

    The 10th for Groves was big considering Degale had a v good 9th. Groves won that easily and it was typical of degale not being able to put 2 or 3 rounds together.

    No matter how much money a rematch could earn groves he should refuse. He doesnt need a rematch just yet and can move on. There is no way if degale got the decision that groves would of got a rematch. Not a chance!!

    Degale and his camp should just look at the tape, look at the flaws and accept a rematch may happen down the road but for now its time to start again. Defeat isnt the end but it will be silly if degale and warren keep banging a robbery drum or calling for a rematch.

    Im really happy groves won. With it being so close a fight both fighters should and will go on from this. I do think it was an odd thing to happen at this stage of their career. A massive fight between two relative novice's to the pro game. Regardless of the result BOTH should go back to planning and getting their careers on track the way they would have if they had never known each other and this rivalry had never occurred. And one day when they are both the finished article come back for a return.

    i like what groves said on skysportsnews he made a very goodpoint that if they had a rematch and he won again degale would have nowhere to go , degale needs to go away lick his wounds and let frank warren find him some nice easy opponents which is old franks specialised subject

    If the decision had gone the other way and Booth was crying about wanting a rematch for his man, the board would tell him to **** off and that ''that's the way the cookie crumbles''.

    Warren was making noises about petitioning the board but I'd be shocked if he went ahead with it. It's too much of a risk for him IMO, the last thing he wants is to take the risk of back to back losses for his biggest prospect.

    If you want a rematch, earn it. Fight Kenny Anderson, fight Paul David or Mendy. Can't see it though, there'll be a bum next up to get him back on track to a point.... then we'll see what happens from there.

    DeGale isn't Warren's biggest prospect though. Maybe Frank will realise that now.

    But Frankie Gavin and Billy-Joe Saunders are at least as talented as him they just hadn't had the fights to prove it.

    I doubt Warren will really pursue with an immediate rematch.
