Hey everyone, Name's Jag and I've been lurking over the forums this past month and wanted to get some feedback since there seems to be a lot of useful advice here. I've been looking for a gym in my area(Orlando,Florida) but am unable to locate one that I feel is giving the necessary attitude and perspective that I have towards boxing. Its mainly places that are "Boxing for the Businessmen" or for its fitness properties rather than learning the technique and becoming a better boxer. The question is, do I spend my money at one of these gyms in order to learn the basics and techniques since I have my own equipment and can practice them once I've learned good habits? Or do I find other means of learning(videos, much further distance gyms)? I don't have much Boxing experience besides that of being in the Army. I'm in pretty decent shape since I hit the gym 4-5 days a week and been doing it for about a year continuously. My cardio is a bit weak but I grabbed some tips from the FAQ placed here to try and get my lungs back. Another curious question I had was.. I'm about 5'6" and my weight fluctuates between 130-145 lbs pending on if I'm bulking up muscle or cutting down to lean mass. What weight would I probably compete at? I don't know my reach but I'd say its proportionate to my height. Thank you guys in advance for the advice. This is a journey into the sport of Boxing I'm glad to finally begin.
Tried that already. Most of those gyms are a far distance from me and I don't have a personal vehicle to always get around.
Did you ask the people at those gyms if there is a good one in your area? Chances are they all have kids who compete against each other. Someone should be able to point you in the right direction.
I did ask them but they could only point me to an online directory which is the same one you showed me. Is it possible to find a trainer without having a dedicated boxing gym in the area?
I'm also interested in finding a boxing gym in Orlando. That directory has got me a few good leads. It is just hard to verify some of these guys credentials. I want to train in a boxing gym with some proven trainers running the place. I've never heard of some of these guys running these gyms. One of those gyms is run by a kung fu guy. I'm looking towards more traditional boxing. Any good recommendations by people who are a little more knowlagable on the subject? Who are the best trainers in\near Orlando? Who has a good reputation?
