Marvelous Marvin by convincing points verdict,as he does everything just a little better than Joe. Wearing the extra eight pounds would n't hurt him any either.

Calzaghe is bigger , stronger and could take a punch better than SRL , and the same in comparison with Duran only this time his advantages are even bigger , not to mention the Duran whom fought Hagler was more past it than Hagler at that time. The fight would have lasted the distance and I favor Calzaghe to win a tough close decision .
Size matters. A good SMW vs. a great small MW here.

Even though Hagler was perfect for that weight,I would n't say that he was a SMALL middle.

he was short even for a MW in his time , and weighing in as low as 157.5 against Duran in 1983 just proves it (it was not a catchweight , right ?).

I'm not sure I even agree with that. Leonard had a ****ing titanium jaw.

Two fights with Hearns, Three fights with Duran, and a fight with Hagler ending on your feet every time? Only Rooster isn't impressed by that for chinosity.

And Lalonde! He took some absolute bombs which I'm not sure ol' Joe would have soaked up without some effort, considering he was put down by an arm punch and a *****-slap at the weight.

I'll take Calzaghe by close decision. Hagler was clearly a superior fighter to Calzaghe, but I'm reluctant to project him maintaining his excellence up at 168. Think he would've easily beaten the "original" SM's of his day: Murray Sutherland, Chong Pal Park, Fully Obel (which he did twice), but Calzaghe is a couple notches up from that group.

Calzaghe at his peak was a poor man's southpaw Leonard, only much bigger/stronger, better chin and a higher workrate and taller/longer. I think that's all wrong for Hagler, he isn't going to be able to walk Calzaghe down like he did Leonard and the speed/movement would see him get outboxed for periods. It would be a close fight none the less but a clear win for Calzaghe, its his weight class after all.

Calzaghe is vastly overrated. Hagler by wide decision over Slapsie MaGhee.

    Agreed.

I don't think the additional 8lbs of muscle on Marvin's broad frame will stop him from completely dominating Calzaghe.
