Hardest Punchers At 168?

Nigel Benn hit as hard as anyone I've seen at both 160 and 168.

He was a monster.

 

Why didn't Roy Jones fight him?

Nigel Benn was on the road out when the fight was a possible. Late 1996 he was beaten by Malinga and Collins. I don't think Jones 'ducked' Benn. It was all about money and politics.

BEnn lost a lot of power at 168.

I would go as far as saying he was no longer able to really turn fights around with just a few punches anymore.

 

Nigel Benn became a more refined fighter as his career progressed. He was still the hardest hitter at 168, just he boxed a bit more and tried not to leave himself as open, I dont think he "lost power" against the bigger guys at all.

 

Roy Jones was a tremendous hitter at 168. Benn is up there as is McClellan, though both of those are a lot more aggressive than Jones.

 

RJJ hit harder than Benn at 168, Benn wasn't that big at this weight and could make 154 earlier in his career. 160 was clearly his best weight.

Benn was a big puncher but more a clubbing puncher, and he usually took quite a few shots to finnish a man. RJJ had more 1 punch explosiveness and clocked Mallinger who beat Benn

 

Would you argue that Gerald McClellan hit harder than Benn?

I think the only two who came close to RJJ at 168 would be those two...however I can't figure out which one hit harder P4P.

 

GMAN definately hit harder, Benn took more shots to take his man out. He beat GMAN on accumulation

 

true he wasnt the destructive bomber that we saw before. but he improved far more technically in his later career. he posessed a great shoulder roll and a good jab. on par with "simple the best"

in the rematch with chris he was outboxing and counterpunching far more effectivly than eubank who is consdered the better boxer and counterpuncher...im surpried by how it was scored a draw but that doesnt have anything to do with the price of tea in china.

but point is that im not sure how you would rate it. i think benn had just as good a power but more conservative in his offence thus we didnt see the knockout as much
