they say the two spared and Greb beat dempsey bad, but i think if they fought in a real fight jack would knocked dempsey out in the later rounds because of the size difference
I heard that Dempsey had sparred Greb and got the worst of it, and the result was Jack turned down an offer to fight Harry.But this could be Urban Legend.As accomplished as Greb was, my impression is that Dempsey would be too much of everything for The Pittsburg Windmill.Greb did fight heavyweights, and had a first round kayo of a washed up Gunboat Smith (scored with a thumb to the eye-right cross to the jaw combo), but Dempsey was a murderous monster, and maybe even tough old Greb wouldn't be able to hold him off.
It is true that Greb embarased Dempsey in some real action sparring sesions and that Dempsey came under serious pressure to defend his title against Greb as a result. One newspaper headline read- "Greb makes Dempsey look like a kitten" If the fight is for Dempseys title however I would expect him to win. He won't **** Greb, or demolish him, and he won't have an easy fight. He will probably find a way to close the deal however.
Greb UD - Greb had the speed, movement, workrate to outhustle a faded Dempsey. He beat the man Dempsey lost too and Dempsey avoided Greb. Maybe Dempsey knew this and thats why he prefered to fight Greb left-overs? Yes dempsey could win and we will never know how this would go
