For the third fight against a top welter opposition in a row, Cotto has either lost or just barely won, his fearsome reputation as a boxer who breaks his opponent's will not seen since the Judah fight oh-so-long ago. So the question now is, has Cotto reached a plateau? Is it possible that he's actually PAST his best? Is there now a blueprint out there for beating him - basically be tough or defensive enough to not bend to his will until he starts to tire, then back up him and step up the volume? Or is it simply that the welter division is THAT damn good and evenly matched?
Yes, I think he looks slightly past it. The Margarito fight, I think, will be regarded as the turning point.
Agreed. Even though the division is sick, I'd lean towards "blueprint". You could see the way Clottey stalked him last night (minus the punches) was like watching the Margo fight all over again. Cotto will see this from every fighter now until he retires.
Cotto peaked in the Margarito fight in defeat. It's all downhill from here on. It's called "Meldrick Taylor" syndrome.
i think he may have reached his ability level, but his experience will grow and he may have another level in him based on this the WW division is also so packed with talent that its impossible to clean up Mayweather don't even want a part of it....
The WW division is stacked with terrific fighters.That Cotto keeps on winning proves he is the best at that weight.
