Hatton ''Boxing's Dying''

The belt situation needs to be sorted out by the sanctioning bodies, a boxer can only aim for whats in front of him but Hatton is probably looking from a promotional point a view and realizing that many fight fans of the future are heading for UFC.

Any annoyance comes from Swollocks blind hate toward the most popular British boxer this century.

 

In fairness, Guy, that's the only time I've ever agreed with Betty- although it was just the first part of his statement. Hennessey has made a good start by focusing on the WBC route- why can't Hatton do this? Even Warren seems to be warming to the WBA as well.

All in all, Hatton has been fantastic for the sport in the UK but these comments just seem a bit off the mark. Yes, boxing is losing it's mainstream appeal- that's a fact. On the other hand, there are more reasons to it than brother Hatton not getting a shot at the IBO strap thanks to Judah pulling out of a fight. There are more pervasive, deep-seeded problems with boxing as a whole that need to be sorted pronto, IMO.

 

:goodFair enough mate to be honest I drifted over the my bruv didn't get the fight with Judah bit and focused on his opinon about the sport. I think your right the promoters need to focus on credibility throughout the sport whilst making money for the fighters at the same time.

After all without a boxing fan base where are the promoters?

 

:goodSadly, I think the fans are probably the last thing promoters ever take into consideration. TV companies only care about the fans as long as they can get a PPV or subscription fee out of you for as crap a deal as possible as well. Ah well, **** happens.

 

I dont understand guys like Joe and Hatton. They engage there mouths first long before they engage their brains. I'm sick to death hearing this rubbish about boxing dying, look it is strong, MMA is not there in a very bad spot that sport all there fights are on PPV and there fighters are under payed by millions of dollars, the only probobly is all the titles, HBO AND SHOWTIME could stop it in seconds, simple ban them all off there network and there finished, pick one title, the best would be the IBF because there based in the USA and come under USA law, with one title in each divison all the rubbish ends and boxing becomes simple, this guy is the boss and that is that.

Any sport that is run the way Boxing is currently run will die off .... Every sport relies on the support of 'Casual Fans' for business .. The fact that we are all fanatics on Eastside doesnt matter, its the casuals that bring in the money ..

Boxing needs to get back to ITV or BBC, it needs regular coverage of up and comers. PPV can come later when they've made they're name but terrestrial television is absolutely critical to boxing's survival.
I know so many people in they're 40's 50's and 60's who are major boxing fans, who used to watch all the big fights but nowadays will not pay, on principal, to watch PPV fights and i can understand why ..

Boxing is dying, because people, quite rightly will not pay £16 to watch a fight card with uncompetitive undercards, a top of the bill that is often predictable and different organisations designed to obviously screw the public ..

Can anybody really make an excuse that boxing has destroyed itself with its treatment of the public. King, Warren and all the other promoters have destroyed boxing and made the public cynical towards the sport while creaming off millions off profit for themselves. As a boxing fan myself this is terrible but theres no doubt about it, that boxing is a dying sport .....

 

I love the way that Ricky talks about he himself staying with boxing 'its brutal enough' as if a move to MMA is a possibility...in one sport Ricky would spend all his time wrestling and struggling to get off the canvass and the others MMA...

boxing is not dying...ffs its only 20 months ago that calzaghe and hatton were voted first and third in the bbc sports personality by the british public..setanta been a blow...but there downfall had nothing to do with boxing..it was more to do with bad fiscal management on there part..itv pulling out of boxing has been a bigger blow in that they were geting good numbers for itv4...so the logic behind there actions seem strange, to say the least

on a positive note the super middle tournament could revolutionise the sport...if the same format is applied to other weights....also 50 american promoters meet last month in an attempt to move the sport forward..they are to meet again...so it will be interesting to see what comes from these talks

 

Hatton thinks HE IS boxing and because he got KTFO by a flyweight, boxing is dead.

 

I laughed a lot at that as well.
