I'm sure I read somewhere after the pac fight he wanted Roach. I can't see that happening though.

 

Got to disagree Billy, cant see Ricky beating JMM

 

he gives that impression. he's also consumed by the bish, bash, bosh pads work. same with dlh. didn't change their technical flaws at all.

floyd was there for the pay day or wouldn't have blamed the loss on hatton and jumped.

hatton loss to flaws HE WAS SUPPOSED TO SORT OUT.

all he did was give him a new strategy. he got paid god knows how much for a gameplan.

Manny Steward wouldn't be great with Hatton I don't think.

Ricky isn't the sort of character that would gel with him..... he needs someone that is more inclined to put their arm around him and boost his ego - IMO of course.

Ricky Hatton's fitness and conditioning was by far better with Billy Graham.

And his mental approach was perfect...! Billy Graham knows Ricky Hatton better mentally....even more than Ricky Hatton's own wife.

 

I can see why Atlas could be a good choice for Hatton. However, he would tolerate any bollocks & if Teddy saw the current condition of Ricky, he would probably tell Hatton to train for a montn or two before starting camp!

Teddy would be worse than Floyd Snr in that he would drill it into Ricky that he is the teacher, you are the pupil, you are here to learn, not the other way around!

I'd be interested to see how the partnership would work out becasue no doubt Teddy is a top-class & highly experienced trainer.

It will be interesting to see how Povetkin does with Atlas training him?

 

None of that will make a blind bit of difference. Hatton is a seasoned pro. If he handnt learnt how to do it in his WBU days he's certainly not going to learn now.

Anyone can look good beating up cans. Ricky made a career of it bar a semi retired Zoo. Give him a guy who can punch back and he's toast.

 

Having read up on Atlas a bit, watching the HBO Legendary Nights Feature on Moorer vs Foreman, watching the Lewis vs Tyson preview on YT and reading Evander's book, I have gained an appreciation into his approach.....

I wouldn't call him a particularly good boxing trainer, he is more of the sports psychologist/performance manager kind of guy - basically what Hatton needs.

Whether Ricky's ego (which is HUGE now) would allow him to work with someone like Atlas, I'm not sure, but it could certainly pay dividends IMO. From the Tszyu fight onwards, he didn't listen to a word he was told in the corner, even against Paulie, Floyd sr was telling him to keep his hand up and move his head - every ****ing round - despite winning the thing pretty easily.

He has had 47 pro fights....... compare that to, say, Hopkins, who has had about 55 - the difference in ring savvy is enormous. Hell, I'd say Rendall Munroe is a more intelligent fighter than Hatton!

 

Why would you expect any difference when Hatton has made a career fighting the same way? Look at how Eastman came unstuck when he moved up in class. Hatton is no different. He's simply used to what he's doing because that always worked. No amount of different trainers is going to make a blind bit of difference.
