just re-watched dis fight on youtube.... Man the early warning signs were there for all to see. If collazo had more will, he easily owns hatton in this fight. instead his will to win is sorely lacking, giving the judges enuf to let hatton win this fight. but yeah, given a non-british ref who doesn't allow ricky to get away with his usual garbage, hatton was a very average fighter, who only survived on heart... that's why he's loved i guess. but man he wasn't that good!!!
yeah that's what i said... the ref was american and didn't let hatton get away with the garbage that Kostya had to put up with. seeing that hatton couldn't do his usual hit and hold strategy... Collazo owned him for most of the fight... collazo is actually a better boxer than hatton
yeah i agree that collazo was the better fighter that night but felt hatton won a close fight(1point ahead) because of the 1st round KD,but Collazo was robbed of a kd at the end
I had Hatton winning a close fight against Collazo. People forget that Hatton fought that fight up at 147 and we all know that 147 isn't his weight class because he can't impose himself on his opponent as good, which is a big part of his game. People give Hatton a lot of ****, mainly the yanks which makes me laugh. Hatton ruled a division and at the end of the day, he could have protected his '0' like a lot of fighters do but he didnt. He challenged himself against the best and ok he didn't win, but at least he can say hand on heart that he fought the best which is very differant from what others can say. I have a lot of respect for the guy.
couldnt agree with you more, Hattons seriously underatted and wrongly slagged off on here, 147 was out of his comfort zone, he obviously knew this post Collazo, but he then went on to challenge the P4P champ back up at that very same weight, he wasnt worried about his "0" he just wanted to fight the best and people dont realise that, he fought Castillio, Tszyu, PBF and Paquiao not to mention top dogs of his division, Malignaggi, Urango, Maussa then moved up and beat Collazo I respect the guy a lot, he been in some awsome wars
Just the ridiculous double standards around these boards. A fighter gets ripped apart for not testing themselves against the best and protecting their '0' (Calzaghe, Floyd jnr) but heaven forbid a fighter moves up in weight into a weight class he is only 75% of the fighter he is at 140 and gets a tough fight. They won 6 rounds each and Hatton got the win due to a 10-8 round. Simple as that.
So that absolutely massive paycheck that hatton was to receive for fighting both p4p no 1's had nothing to do with his decision? To me, this was 100% of the decision... he didn't give a crap about legacy and all that junk... he wanted a big juicy pay day and there is nothing wrong with that
Collazo is a top notch, slick and skilled southpaw & a natural welterweight. If anything,,, moving up from 140 and fighting Luis to a draw (my score) shows that Ricky was not as bad as many now try to claim.
No excuse for Hatton chasing those fights. Hatton is much less money motivated by people like Floyd that protect their 0's. Besides that, he's a promotor. The money obviously has it's draws, but you're selling your soul chasing fights you know you can't win for a fat cheque.
You could easily score the fight six rounds each, with a 10-8 in the first for Hatton and last for Collazo. I score it 7-5 for Hatton, but 114-112 for that very reason :good
