Are you in one of those moods? I meant (as you well know) that he weights 160 lbs+ on fight night.

(and yes, I know Hatton is a jr Middle by the time he gets into the ring)

He's a welter. Matters not as he's a way more polished fighter than Hatton and would eat him alive.

Jeff. You really think Diaz would take him apart? Would you have said teh same thing before the Pac fight?

Hatton would have a good chance against Diaz. He should be stronger than Diaz, and thats a big deal for Hatton in implementing his style. Plus Diaz does not really have any handspeed or punch power to upset Hatton greatly.

Hatton is faster than him, his footwork could be the key difference. You could see that the difference between Hatton/Paulie and Diaz/Paulie is that Hatton cut the ring off MUCH more effectively.

The only time I'd worry for him is in the later rounds where he's gassed lately, if its fought at a high pace which seems likely.

No... But I don't think there's any coming back from a loss of that nature. Diaz is so under-rated by folk on here. He's quality. Hatton has no trainer at the moment. He's well above his fighting weight.... I really don't see anyway back for him. I'm a fan- he's a great lad but I want him to retire before he gets embarassed.

I would agree with this completely (pretty much). The biggest problem for Ricky, in my opinion, would be that he has pretty much already reclined into a retired state of mind. I don't know whether or not that is the case but to come from that loss to Pac and then several months of telling yourself your fighting days are over, time to concentrate on promotion.
Well, I just don't think he would be right mentally for a Diaz or any fight!

By the way, does everyone know Muhammed Ali is appearing at Ricky's new gym, in Hyde (East Manchester) tomorrow? Anyone going? I'll be there (can't get in though but the car park is open, so will at least glimpse a real hero of mine and, you never know, he may come and shake hands with us over the fence!!)

Ahhh yeah. Very much my thoughts over the last couple of months. It's gonna be a scary time for Ricky and his fans if he ever laces up again.

I also would like to see him retire now but a big part of me wants him to prove something to those who never believed in him. I would like to see him one more time in the ring with a real name and to come out of it with a great win!... but, I understand how selfish that thought is.

You going to be there tomoz, Jeff? I presume you'll be in for it, if so?
If I can't get hold of Muhammed (then Muhammed will get hold of me... and something about a mountain) would still be good to shake the hand of the not quite so great as Ali but still pretty ace, Jeff Thomas! ;-)

We tried everything but apparently, even press aren't allowed in the gym to see him.

Im quite surprised at the amount of peeps who reckon Diaz aint much too. He is a cracking fighter who had a FOTY with JMM and if im honest I have JMM as my p4p#1 after he beat Pac twice (well he did on my card lol)

This prospect of this fight excites me,and by the sounds of it,it's a very distinct possibility. The perfect fight for Hatton to bow out IMO. A war on home soil, and it would be a war, which Hatton should be very cappable of winning. And then announce his retirement in the ring, ending his career with a quality W. I hope it comes off.

  10. If Hatton has anything left.....and lets not forget he totally outclassed Paulie last november he beats Diaz in a lopsided desicion

Wow! That would have been an interesting meeting! Would a diverse group of characters there!

Jeff, out of interest (considered probably cause of the latest thread about Lennox being Brit or Canuck) do you ever get Dutch folk claiming you as their own? Do you have a big fan base in the Netherlands?
I understand you weren't there for long enough to realise you were anywhere.

    Cheers.

berto isnt as half bad at 147 as many others like to belive, theres something berto has that hatton has trouble with and thats blinding hand speed, i doubt even on his best night he'd beat berto as convincingly as u claim, i'm quite sure hatton would get hurt in a fantasy fight however im not sure if he has it in him to inflict such pain upon a natural 147lber hard 1 to call really
