Haye & McGuigan Split

From what I've seen since Hayes return is firstly he's certainly not the fighter that he was when he faced Wlad or even Chisora.

Secondly McGuigan isn't that good of a coach.

 

How is McGuigan not a good coach ?

 

I think Shane is a great young coach. Look what he's done with Frampton; two weight world champion. Nobody forseen LSC's gameplan in the second fight, he never boxed like that in his life.

Shane has also lifted George Groves off the boxing scrap heap and turned him into a world champion. George just defeated an extremely tough fighter in sensational fashion to pick up the WBA super title.

My assumption is that Shane suggested Haye should retire but Haye is too broke to do so. Haye will fight Bellew again for a few million and probably lose again due to an injury then retire. Shane won't want that on his CV for a second time.

 

Coldwell will be Haye's next trainer in a move reminiscent of when Lennox Lewis hired Manny Steward after the McCall defeat back in the day

Haye is probably going to base himself in the US, he will get a trainer there , it wouldn't make sense to live there with a UK based trainer.

 

I m not overly impressed with mcguigan either tbh. I think in terms of fitness etc hes up there. Seems to bring the guys in in decent shape. Tactically i think hes lacking. No sure hes got the authority needed to be a great coach either.

Thought tactically groves was poor in that last fight. Keeps trying to fight inside when its clear his skills lie on the outside. Could say it was a good win and good performance but at the end of the day he ended up with a broken jaw. Not sure the guy would have hit groves under booth.

Thought the whole haye saga was one big embarrasement for mcguigan. What was the gameplan exactly against bellew? Looked to me like they got him fit then hit pads really hard the whole camp. Looks like a very good fitness coach to me

 

He's made Haye worse if anything and Frampton is a talent who would have excelled regardless of who his trainer was.

When he has more successful fighters from his camp other than Frampton and Flintoff then I'll admit that I'm wrong.

What planet are you living on, hes had three fights with Haye who hadn't fought in 3.5 years he won two by KO against questionable opposition never the less he stopped them very quickly, he lost one fight against Bellew where he was injured before he even stepped in the ring !

 

Questionable opposition is a polite way of putting it.

 

There's absolutely no chance in hell Haye will hire Penfold. Firstly, he's looking for the Bellew rematch. Secondly, you really think he and Bellew would co-exist in the same gym?

I think there's a strong chance we could see Haye link up with Virgil Hunter. He's good friends with Amir Khan. He was in Paris last night to see Ringstar Promotion's Tony Yoka make his debut. Yoka is of course trained by Hunter. I'm sure Haye will have had a few words with Virgil Hunter while out in Paris. And he'd be able to spar Ward, Fonfara, Yoka...

If Haye doesn't link up again with Booth, my prediction is Virgil Hunter.

I actually think they could gel well.

 

This is just an opinion I'm throwing in, but I was surprised that McGuigan let Haye carry on after the 6th round. That injury was horrendous and he should have stopped that fight. It reminded me of when I watched a history programme about the Titanic sinking. Many people on board just couldn't accept it, it was unthinkable, and stayed aboard way too long and paid for it with their lives. It was bordering on arrogance (and shock)...'but this ship is unsinkable'. Haye & McGuigan hadn't thought about the possibility that Haye could lose against Bellew and it took far too long to react to it and do the right thing. McGuigan needed to take charge no matter what Haye said and thrown the towel in/retired.

The question is, would he have let his other fighters i.e. Frampton carry on in that condition? I don't think he would. And that's not a great trainer-fighter relationship imo.
