Took the gloss off an otherwise very decent performance. I don't understand why, when a boxer has an arsenal of fast, sharp, powerful punches to unleash, they need to resort to hard rabbit punching?? They weren't just taps or niggles to the back of the head during clinches. They were full on hooks clearly aimed at the back of Ruiz's skull. I wasn't listening to the sky commentary so I don't know if it was controversial or not. But three of the knockdowns had a hard rabbit punch involved during the knockdown. This wasn't even a close fight where he needed the edge, which makes it even worse. He doesn't want to be remembered for this crap so he needs to cut it out with the end of that fight. he could do with visiting McClellan and putting his dirty tactics into perspective.
I thought the first one was bad when both fighters were at the ropes and abroad Haye may not have got away with just a point deduction. The oth bad rabbit punch seemed to be a case of Haye throwing and Ruiz turning his back on him, both to blame.
disciplinary rules and codes of conduct are what set us apart from the MMA ***s. in that case why outlaw lowblows? A rabbit punch can put you in a vegetative state/maybe even kill you. A low blow will stop you temporarily/prevent you from re-producing...which is the more serious?? the governing bodies need to come down on Haye. A deducted point doesn't mean **** to him when he is winning every round and probably won't in the future.
I didn't see anything that bad, I'll watch it again but... He had his man hurt and Ruiz was half turning away, Haye just carried on punching, thats the finishers instinct. It wasn't like a carefully devised plan to punch Ruiz on the back of the head, it just happened. The punches on the back of the head in clinches are worse because a fighter has time to think about doing that.
The first one was a fair cop but perhaps should have had a warning before a point deduction. The others were Ruiz turning away from punches. If you turn your head, youre gonna get hit on the back of it. Ruiz's fault. Also, Ruiz was incredibly lucky not to get penalised for punching after the bell! Call it even.
