I've heard of body punches to the heart being thrown. I know they played a big role in the finish of Zale-Graziano I. Anyone have good footage of a good punch to the heart? any body shot KO's, maybe?

...sorry,,,no footage...but nat fleischer and some others wrote that gene tunney had a solid right hand to the heart and while i don't know of any knockouts for him with this punch they said it could weaken an opponent and they said it played a part in his wins over dempsey . i wasn't there...but i'm just sayin....

Alexis Arguello often would throw a right uppercut to the heart. I believe at the end of the Mancini fight he threw a right uppercut to the heart followed by a left hook and then a straight right hand which finished matters (I'm working from memory here). I'm sure that footage is on youtube. Also, check out this Arguello footage which I just found yesterday. He aims several uppercuts to the heart and knocks the guy down with a body shot. It may be debatable if it's a heart punch, but I believe the intent is there and it's beautiful technique:

Its an 'old timer' technique. What really happens is that with poor technique they aim for the chin but end up hitting the chest, and then Nat Fleischer sticks his agenda into overdrive and calls it a heart punch, a masterful technique that modern boxers aren't good enough to master

Jack Dempsey was known to throw heart punches and would target other area's that fighters do not target today like the ribs and pit of stomach

I heard somewhere that throwing a punch at the heart isn't as effective as landing in the head or gut, but it is used as a form of intimidation. Any punch thrown correctly will really hurt, certain areas are more susceptible to causing a KO. A heart punch, is roughly an intimidation tactic. Also, containing the ability to move punches around on an opponent's body in such detailed fashion adds to the randomness of expecting a certain punch to be thrown.

In an army bout I was winnin' in a walk, a few seconds before the final bell my opponent caught me with a right to the heart. Froze me in place with my hands up. Could see but paralyzed.

Had my opponent realized 'n jumped on me, I'dda been dead meat.

When I was in high school me and my friends would sock each other in the heart just for kicks. We always felt like we were going to die/froze up... then we saw this:

    We stopped.

Heart punches in general slow your opponent down when delivered accurately and thrown with moderate force, and is a very useful tool.

That's nuts. I never had any idea that the heart punch was that effective. I knew it could do something, but that? Whew...that's not my shot to take.
