I saw a thread earlier asking if this is the worst Heavyweight era of all time and it got me thinking what can we look forward to after the Klitschko's are done. The reality is that as bad as it is now it looks even worse beyond the Klitscko era. There just doesn't appear to be many exciting Heavyweight prospects coming through. As bad as the American Heavyweights have been for the last few years it looks to me as if it hasn't bottomed out yet as there doesn't appear to be many prospects coming though other then Deontay Wilder and possibly Seth Mitchell who are both extremely raw I can't think of one. The only other Heavyweight contender from the Americas worthy of note is Odliander Solis but I see him facing the K bros in the next 24 months so probably worth taking him out of the consideration. Accross the pond in Europe there are Kubrat Pulev, Robert Helenius, Alexander Povetkin, Dennis Boystov, Edmund Gerber and possibly the winner of Del Boy-Sexton. Looking at those names is there anyone there that you can see becoming the torch bearer for the Heavyweight division and does it worry you that there are so few decent fights to be made at what was for so long the greatest division in Boxing. Simply put will the Heavyweight division be worse in 3-5 years time then it is now without a proper champ and without exciting fights to look forward to.
Man it is said when the Kbros are gone there is not even another good heavy on the horizon. This unskilled bunch are destroying boxing!
Robert Helenius is the best euro coming up if you ask me. I've seen him fight a few times. Seems to have decent power. Most of your boxing will not be coming from the usa. UFC is taking over here . I went around over here last week asking young people who the heavyweight champs was and not one person could tell me. It kinda hurt me being a boxing fan. But most of them could tell me all about MMA. I even met one guy that was a MMA fighter. We have to face the facts MMA is taking over in the USA. That is what our young people prefer. I'm not sure why. Maybe if people like Brock Lesnar would have when into boxing insted of MMA things would be different. WWE is big here too.
I think he has talent especially athletically but he is far to raw for my liking. From the sounds of things he looked bad in his last fight. And the reality is his Olympic run was not all that impressive and as discussed with the state of American Heavyweights being what it is winning the Golden Gloves also isn't that bigger deal. I'm not writing him off but he has a very long way to go before he reaches championship standard, in years gone by he wouldn't have stood a chance now I don't know.
That's sad the Heavyweight division needs top American contenders and champions and clearly the reality is that sadly all the top Heavyweight build athletes are clearly not going near Boxing anymore which is a shame to say the least. But strangly enough it's not as if there aren't any American Heavyweight's arround according to Box Rec there are 450 that's nearly half of the Heavyweight division world wide :nut there are only 40 in the UK. I hope that I will be proven wrong but after looking through the Heavyweight ranks of the US it just doesn't look like anyone is coming through, it's actually quite scary I don't think I saw 1 fighter that was under 24 with a 10-0 record or similair. I know records don't count for **** but there was barely one fighter worth a look at from the looks of their record.
