I've seen him mentioned as one of Puerto Rico's five greatest fighters on these boards before. I don't think he's even in the top 10. But does he count as an ATG in other people's eyes?
I don't think very many are going to agree that he accomplished nearly enough to be seen as a great fighter. Maybe a great talent, but his accomplishments are too thin relative to what an actual great resume looks like.
No. He was on his way. His talent was obvious and he was putting it all together. Outstanding fighter though.
NO To me an ATG is a guy is top 5 or 10 in his division all time. Hector was great at 130 and 135 for a short time but he fizzled out quickly after the Rosario fight. He made one defense at 130 and two defenses at 135. His best win was the very close win over Rosario in which he was rocked. The win over Ramirez was great Other than that, he blew out a battle worn Bazooka Limon. I think "ATG is thrown around too much. He deserves his spot in the IBHOF but, I feel a lot of guys who are in the IBHOF are not actually ATGs if you use a strict definition of the term.
No. He had ATG talent, but never truly lived up to it. Still had a HOF career, but not an ATG career.
This .The talent was there .at one point he was been spoke about as the guy most likely to defeat JCC.Then he seemed to disappear for a while.Then came the loss to Haugen,by then he was slipping. So IMO sadly not a ATG .

Adding onto the Rosario effect i think Camacho lost a bit pretty quickly as well. Was it the move to 140? The effects of life in the fast lane? A combination of both? Even in his late 20's he seemed to drop off substantially. I have plenty of respect for Haugen but i really don't think he'd have come close to Camacho one division lower 5-6 years prior. Same with Mancini. Hector actually peaked around 21-24 imo.
Yes he is. And a lot of people are too young to remember Macho in his prime. Rosario,Ramirez,Davis Jr,Boza Edwards,Limon, Haugen,Paz,Mancini, I mean he beat a lot of good fighters and some great fighters. At his best he was really something.
