Henry Armstrong's "Blackout" Punch

I've seen this particular blow of Hank's mentioned about here and there.

McCallum scribed (1974, p 212), “They called Armstrong’s most chilling punch “blackout” – a peculiar looping right which was neither hook nor jab nor swing but a high flickering fast blow to the chin. “It moved about 10 inches,” Henry said, “a terrible thing to do to anybody. Most of them never saw it coming.”



Is there any available footage of Henry throwing this punch?

 

He throws it quite often in pretty much all of his filmed fights. Just look for it.

Usually set up by the left hook to the body.

Unfortunately the only film we have of Armstrong is against iron-jawed competition. His constant, compact power punching would do a job on most fighters I'm sure.

 

Is it just his typical overhand right though? or does it look different?

 

Bam! I think that's it. Wow. it's a weird looping but incredibly quick swing. looks like it would hurt. No wonder it defies classification- it very much is a hybrid of a swing, hook, and straight.

 

It's the quick, looping overhand right that he angles his body right out of upon following through.

 

Yeah he does it all the time, it's the main thing you always recognise him doing
