high guard

i.e Arthur Abraham. What are the advantages and disadvantages of having this style ?

 

hi guard is really good for shorter fighters or guys that like to fight on then inside.but its not so good for counter punching.

 

Umm obviously more protection, but I would imagine you would let your shots off slower

 

In AA's case, it looks like you can't see **** when your arms are up like that.

 

Not seeing makes it the worst possible defence to me.

 

My (limited) experience is, that when you cover up like that, you get flurried on and its hard to get your counter shots off without getting popped in the process.

 

Yah, that's me. I keep a high guard a lot cause I'm normally shorter then the guys I spar.

 

Keeping the guard high is definitely rewarded in amateur boxing. If no punches get through cleanly, no points. Just watch your body and get good at feeling your way into a counter. You feel a punch hit your hand and--BAM--you throw it out for a counter and KEEP PUNCHING.

 

Doesn't work for me. Don't get me wrong I maintain a full guard normally but I tend to play more with the left, and I do need some head movement. AA is very limited in my opinion.

 

Good in the amateur game as the previous poster said as the oppenent has very small scoring targets to aim at.
