Still, Sapp DID beat Hoost, and Hoost is no joke. He gave Nogueira a run for his money. I think that Cro Cop's win over him was a big feather in his cap. Sapp, though skill-less, could still hit about as hard as Godzilla. I think that Mirko breaking his orbital bone brought a certain fact to Sapp's attention, which was that he could be hurt like anybody else. I agree with you regarding excessive muscle, btw. Pudzianowski vs Sylvia really highlighted the fact that huge muscles need huge amounts of oxygen, and what happens if they don't get that oxygen.
Hoost fought wrong, he decided to trade blows, something he does not do even with many of his other opponents. Hoost is not the most heavy handed fighter out there as well, so it was a wrong tactic. Nog was a submission specialist who was also incredibly lanky and not very powerful, so Sapp had his way with him when he was on the ground, not surprisingly since Nog was a tall Lanky target to be hit all night. Who hits harder, Overeem or Sapp? Tyson or Sapp?
Even when Hoost was kicking him and backing away it would only work to a certain degree... You really are discrediting Sapp for what he was back then. He was a legit threat to EVERYONE. Nearly killed the baddest man on the planet (at that time) in Nog. Beat Hoost TWICE under HIS rules. The man was not idiot.
I give him credit for beating Hoost, Hoost's legacy will suffer greatly in return, already has. Hoost would beat Sapp had he'd been more technical, and patient. He also needed to avoid getting cornered, which he failed to do. As for Nog, he gets overpowered in many of his fights, he was getting rag dolled by a smaller 227 pound Fedor for Christs sake, what did you expect would happen? Nog could have kept it standing and exhausted Sapp before he went to the ground, thus making it easier for Sapp to get submitted, but it went to the ground straight away. Nog's style relies on taking punishment on the ground, and ultimately submitting his opponents after they exhaust themselves. Nog is one of the easiest people to hit. But I give Sapp credit regardless. Too bad Minowa> Sapp
First off: Try and get "technical" when a prime, motivated Sapp was coming to you with reckless abandon and ZERO respect for your skills. Ain't happening! You have to have world class, legit, 1-shot KO power to beat him (Le Banner, Mirko, Sefo). Oh Fedor? The world class judoka who had the best striking-to-takedown transitions the game has ever saw? Oh, that guy? You think the Minowa fight wasn't a throw? Come on, man.
:rofl So you are saying Sapp has Hoost's number :huh You are telling me that a great like Hoost cannot low kick Sapp and avoid trading punches consistently with Sapp in order to receive at least a decision? Hoost fought Sapp the wrong way, literally. He probably used the worst tactics of any kickboxing great in history to defeat their particular opponent. Butterbean would have knocked out Sapp then, while a kickboxing great like Hoost cant? If anything this tarnishes Hoost's legacy if you think about it. Now that I see it, Butterbean would have knocked out Sapp in the second round in a kickboxing or boxing bout Whatever floats your boat man. Minowa fights BIG men much better than he fights men his size, that is why he is called the "giant killer." It was not surprising he beat Sapp, Sapp gains NOTHING from throwing a fight with this smaller fighter. Supposedly Sapp throws fights to avoid excessive damage, BUT how on Earth is a feather fisted, weak 170 pound Minowa going to damage Sapp in anyway? If Sapp could have beaten this guy, he WOULD have done it in the first 50 seconds, but he didn't, so it is safe to say Sapp is not better than Minowa. :deal
Sapp did have Hoost's number. He beat him twice, what more do you want? Even when Hoost was on his bike and was doing noting BUT low-kick Sapp it wasn't enough to keep him off him. BB would have got killed. What I meant was was that you had to have world class power in your hands as well as your legs in that arena to truly stop Sapp. Hoost wasn't the biggest puncher in K-1. Why does Sapp throw all his fight nowadays then (well, for years now) then? Why did the man who YOU model your username after confront him about this? Minowa is the man, but Sapp, on his day would break him in half.
Yep, pity about Sapp, and how he ended up. I think that after Cro Cop he thought "damn, I can get really hurt doing this" (bust orbital bone is extremely painful) and simply looked for a way to get the fight over with asap after that.
Crocop has a thing for orbital bones, IMO. Sak, Sapp... To put a man down the size of Sapp who, in his prime, could take serious punishment, with one punch AND have him bawling like a child on the floor in pain, definitely say's something about your punching power!
I think Cro Cop was amazed that he loses easily to very SMALL opponents. Someone like Minowa for instance, Sapp should have steamrolled over him in 50 seconds, he did not. Sapp throws fights he understandably knows he cannot win, or will receive allot of damage if he tries to win, but there really is NO excuse losing to a 170 pound feather fisted Minowa, Sapp just has mediocre skills. By the way, Butterbean will brutally knock off Sapps head within 4 rounds :deal Bad matchup for Sapp. If Sapp really does have Hoost's number, it renders negative output for Hoost's legacy. His legacy thus will suffer greatly in return. I am not a fan of Hoost so I really do not care, if anything this just makes it hilarious. This proves if anything that fighting should be about damage output, not point scoring. Hoost is not a real fighter in my eyes.
Just Re-watching said fights. Man they were good! Sapp/Hoost I is one of the greatest fight I've ever seen. Pure dynamite!
So how wasn't he? In those early days he beat Hoost (fair and square) at his own game under his rules. Only massive punchers in Sefo and Le Banner stopped him.
Sapp had MANY losses on his record, it is not just Sefo or Banner. I still say Hoost could have stopped Sapp had he played his cards right. I liked his fight with Kimo though, the two were staggering each other left and right :rofl
