When a guy has a tight defence do any of you sometimes just leather the arms when they're on the ropes if you can't get through? I know that guys like Rocky Marciano did this in 15 round fights and obviously amatuer fights are far shorter and it's a different sport.

It seems to be working for me in sparring but I wanted to see some of your opinions on it before I try it in fights.

I think its good if your hitting anything. If your hitting them they're not hitting you - just don't do it once you get beyond novice level. Above that fighters should be looking to reflex punch...

I do it, but only real light quick punches to keep their hands in place so I can dig hard to the body.

I'm interested in the possibility of tiring the arms by hitting them. I've never tried it in sparring yet, but has anyone used it successfully? I can imagine it being more effective if it were used in the first round.

I hit arms or touch. What I mean by tough, I will literally put my glove on theirs and push it away

I like to flurry at the center of their guard and then drop down with a hard hook to the body.

Also, you can grab their elbow and pull it out of the way, then let go and chop in a shot to the body.

Also, you can throw a right hand at their right glove, followed by a left uppercut to the head into the space you created. Works the other way as well: Left hook to left glove-straight right (or right uppercut).

And if none of that works for me, then ABSOLUTELY i will pound on their arms. You can aim for their gloves, because often those punches will hurt them to the head just as much as if you were punching them without it being blocked.

You just have to do something to make them uncover their face or ribs.

You'd have to hit him really hard to give him a charlie horse in his arm/shoulder muscle to get the affect in an amateur fight. Works better in long pro fights where you can just pepper his arms and wear him down for the later rounds.

Similar to going to the body. In amateurs if you want to tire him with body shots you have to throw them hard. In pros you don't have to throw as hard becuase you have more time for them to add up.
