What do you think of the ending to this fight? I think the stoppage was premature, but I also think that Holmes would have stopped Snipes anyway. Even if he didn't, Holmes was winning the fight.

    Agree with both points.

I mean, other than the knockdown, Holmes was in control.

Definitely. Too much is made of that knockdown. Holmes got decked. Rose by the count of four. Stumbled a bit, then came back to finish the round strong. Its been a few years since I've watched the fight in its entirety but unless my memory is off, I think Larry won every round of that fight except the one with that knockdown.

Yep agree. Holmes bounced back and won handily. If it had gone full distance would have well ahead

Too much is made of the knockdown. It was a sneaky, short right hand that was hard as hell to anticipate. Those are the punches that have the most effect, since the opponent never sees them coming.

Nevertheless, it's rarely mentioned how Snipes didn't manage to capitalize on that punch at all, how Holmes completely recovered in seconds and won the rest of the round pretty clearly.

It was a one sided fight with a few seconds of drama in-between.

Other than the knockdown, Holmes dominated.

Snipes was a free swinging, oft looking amateurish wannabe. Larry always seemed to get lazy and get caught with a big right. Just put this fight in the anamoly archive...

Snipes should've waited another year for a shot at the belt.

    Very questionable stoppage.

I also think that the stoppage was premature but I'm not convinced that Holmes was going to win. The dangerous sneak right of Snipes was still landing.
