Holmes vs Shavers 1

    Just rewatched this fight for the first time since it aired back in I believe 77.This is the fight & the fighter that got me involved with the sport.
    Holmes was absolutly superb in this fight,what a performance he put on.
    Anyone have any comments on this fight? It is one of my favorites.

    Holmes showed some great movement in this fight. Shavers was actually in good shape, probably better than he was in their rematch, but he could do nothing to Holmes.

    Simply a Holmes clinic. This is Holmes around his peak i'd say. Not many heavies in history get past this version.

    Holmes best performance. He showed top 5 ATG calibre in this fight. Such a shame he didnt take on more elite contenders.

    Holmes was younger and more successful with his attack, approach and his accuracy against Shavers in '78, but I still pop a major pecker of wood when I do my review of the epic '79 title fight more so......... I prefer the rematch fight since the belt was on the line.........

    Shavers hit Holmes with a monstrous right in the rematch but Holmes shrugged it off as he got up. It showed how great his heart was.
