Tyson didnt do any good work after that shot he hit Holyfield low with. Its funny you remember that shot, that and the first righthand of the fight were the best shots Tyson landed. The fight was no great display of anything. Neither fighter showed any type of lateral movement. Both guys just stood in front of each other, Tyson swung for the fences, Holy feinted and shoved his righthand in right down the middle. It wasnt any great display of counterpunching. Tyson fought like an amatuer and Holyfield picked him apart.
Thats why the second fight was shaping up to be more competitive. You saw Tyson moving a little better and punching more in combinations. Holyfield was always a hell of a counterpuncher though, but Tyson was too back in his heyday.

Lateral movement is hardly necessary when both are come forward fighters looking to go toe-toe, both look to cut off the ring. I don't buy Tyson suddenly forgot how to box, was he as defensively as sharp, no, but he was facing someone who was offering him to exchange, picking his shots off and picking him apart

And no I was talking about Holy landing a low blow, not Tyson, that low blow really sapped Tyson big time and led to him being knocked down. Tyson was actually trying a few different tactics that round that were working until Holy fouled and took advantage of the fouls. That low blow imo was more important than the butts

ANd no I think Tyson won a round somewhere between 7-9, can't remember which, Holy was having a break though.

    Fair enough.

There are a few emoticons that convey bemusement.

    This, :-( , isn't one of them.

The matter-of-factness was just an attempt at deadpan humor.

However, I do rank the three dudes in that order.

Wonder how things would be viewed if Tyson's plane had crashed on his way to Japan in 1990.

And how do you cutoff the ****ing ring? You do it with the proper movement. Yes Tyson forgot how to box and setup his shots, thats why 90% of his shots didnt land, and that was against even the most limited of fighters. You layoff four years from something you have to relearn basics and Tyson didnt relearn his basics correctly, thats what Tommy Brooks was trying to correct the entire time he was with him, and you can believe that as a fact. Tyson was a technical mess. Holyfield went right back to being the old fighter he was after the Tyson fights.
Im not going to get into a long discussion on all the mistakes he made because you wont believe it anyway. :verysad

yeah but it was the bemused shoulder shrugging look i was going for and this had the face for it, just not the shoulders.

yeah i got the humour, unfortunately my attempt at returning the humour failed, miserably :-( (better use of that emoticon)

massive waste of talent, probably the greatest h2h heavyweight in history. however his legacy would be relient on the dudes he beat to rule the hw scene for a bit.

He is a great story, part tragedy and part comedy. Like something out of a Shakespeare play.

(Great man held back by a character flaw, an sharp lady (and her mum), the entourage of hangers-on, etc.)

Folks who don't follow the sport at all took a great interest in his saga.

That was not a great fight and neither guy did anything special, I was there, people were so fogged in by the King/Tyson marketing blitz that they simply could not accept that Holyfield had any chance, since Holyfield won they automaticly turned him into some magic dragon slayer becuase only a superman could beat Tyson..........far from it, Mike was never ever in any shape or form ready to go 12 hard rounds after prison, period, fact not fiction, his training habits and mental focus were laughable. He fought on pure talent but talent only takes you so far without hard work and he absolutly dispised hard work. Holyfield was just the better conditioned fighter who came to fight and not just pick up a payday, he held and held some more, fouled, saw Mikes telegraphed single punches from a mile away and simply tired him out and got brave when Tyson did not even know what Ring he was in.....

Tyson did not give a **** if he won or lost as long as the cash kept coming.

As far as ranking, it is a toss up IMO, my problem with Holyfield is that he struggled a lot with fights/fighters he should not have had any problems with ,Tyson, when he was on made it look so damn easy.....

I agree. The fight was close for the first 4 rounds, with maybe Holyfield getting the upper hand.

In round 5, the commentators mentioned that Holyfield looked tired
Tyson came on strong in that round and landed the body punnches/uppercuts. The start of round 6, more of the same from Tyson. If Tyson applied more pressure he could have had Holyfield out of there....HOWEVER then theres the headbutt and a little while later, the KD.
AFTER the butt tyson didnt seem the same.
BEFORE the butt Holyfield looked to be tiring and Tyson nearly had him out of there.

    Round 5 04:48 onwards

    Holyfield=cheating *******

One thing i dont understand in this fight, is, when Tyson is cut, the crowd actually cheer and strt chanting Holyfield?

    Hatred for Tyson perhaps?

The difference here is that ali beat a peak foreman and the two aren't that close that h2h would be a tiebreaker.

Holyfield and tyson had very evenly regarded careers. So the man perceived as "better" would be likely to go down as "greater"
