Folks were talking about Morrison's fight against Bentt in Tulsa which was a total disaster. Holyfield's return to Atlanta against Cooper almost turned out to be the same. I don't think it's a coincidence that guys fighting in their hometowns for the first time in a while, or the first time in a really high profile way, often have shaky outcomes. Morrison was reportedly partying his *ss off. Holy went gonzo to impress the hometown audience and it almost cost him

    Any others come to mind?

James Toney removing the smug from Nunn's face in Nunn's hometown was priceless. One of my favorite moments in boxing.

One that sticks out for me was when Brian Mitchell returned home to SA to have a non-title fight against unheralded Felipe Oroszco. I was in attendance that night and Mitchell looked sluggish and squeaked home a narrow points winner.
If memory serves it was a split decision although I will have to check on that.

He took a lashing in the press for that fight. Definitely one of his poorest performances.

Frank Bruno vs. Bonecrusher Smith & Tim Witherspoon.

Nigel Benn lost his first fight in his home city of London, but it was against a fellow Londoner in Michael Watson.

    Hatton vs Senchenko
Foster vs Ahumada. It was a draw, but even Bob knew he lost.

Coetzee's home town is Boksburg. That fight took place in Pretoria. Same province, though...

    Great shout! :good

What made it really ironic (and sad) was that Hatton got stopped by a body shot! His bread & butter!:shock:

Jeff Fenech talked about being robbed in the first fight with Azumah Nelson in Vegas. He was so confident in the rematch in Melbourne but got starched in 8 and his career was forever in a slide after that. It's like his chin had taken too much punishment and his time was up. Nobody woukd have guessed that.

Jr. Jones against Kennedy McKinney - that fight was supposed to be Jones' stepping stone to a megafight with Prince Hamed (who fought on the same card against Kevin Kelley), but a failed bid to get an early KO, followed by a big right hand from McKinney spoiled all of that.
