Pull punches that never happened out of thing air if it suits your argument I guess. Video analysis of the fight doesn't show Slappy landed more than 50. The fight did stink. Hopkins gas tank was on empty by the seventh round. Still Hopkins landed more shots, and the harder shots of the fight. He didn't land at a high clip either, but at least his are viewable when reviewing the fight.
I'm not a special fan of either, but Calzaghe embarrassed Hopkins in that fight and there was nothing Hopkins could do about it.
Calzaghe clearly beat Hopkins, but seriously, these Hopkins v Calzaghe threads are like some incurable ESB venereal disease. Enough already.
I also want to add Calzaghe literally tried to **** Hopkins that night. I still shutter at that one...
I had it 114-113 for Hopkins, and I gave Hopkins rounds 1-4, 7, and 10. It was a close match, and unlike most people who said it sucked or that it was boring, I quite enjoyed the tactical chess match of adjustments and counter adjustments. This was the night that Calzaghe proved his worth as a great to me. That was the first and only time I had ever seen B-Hops get outworked and outhustled in the championship rounds. It was a close fight, and I was probably in a small minority, but I always wished to see those two have a rematch.
How come no one suspects things with BHop, if he totally gassed and 4 or more years later, at an advanced age, he no longer gasses?
I often discuss or joke with a friend about the Holyfield thing. As I recall Holyfield was taken to a leading cardiac center and they found a heart defect, andf then he went to Benny Hinn, and was cured. Paid him some big bucks for that. Not a religious person myslef, nor my friend, so I don't know WTF happened. But the heart defect was no loinger there!
another Volume Vs. Clean punching fight where the score cards vary. In this particular fight, volume won, & this is coming from a person who favors the clean effective puncher. However, Hopkins did not do nearly enough and clearly lost the fight. He was completely outworked
finally another person who knows how to judge a fight and see past the bull****. too few of people like you and Masters left on this site.
somebody's bad hopkins ruined their boy:rofl:rofl:rofl [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ygfqXj9pvGA[/ame]
Both men fought a **** fight and Hopkins gave the fight away in the second half. Hopkins landed the cleaner harder shots, but this is boxing not street fighting, fights are not scored on who lands the cleaner harder shots, they are scored on a round by round basis and Calzaghe won the Majority of rounds. Even though he didn't land **** himself. (And besides Joe's busted nose which was, I believe, caused by a headbutt, Calzaghe wasn't all that 'busted up' at all) Both men had trouble landing punches on each other which made it a **** fight so some people tend to award the victory for Bernard's 'clean effective punching', even though, if you watch it round by round, Hopkins doesn't do **** in the later rounds. Sorry, but I don't give rounds for landing 2 or 3 clean punches and then proceeding to cheat, stall and look for point deduction opportunities. Bernard has no one to blame but himself end thread
