Exactly what I mean, look at the best names that you could come up. Kessler is good, but Lacy who had only 21 fights when he fought JC (was he considered a top P4P like Roy jones Jr., Tito Trinidad and Oscar de la Hoya or even Taylor) and Eubank, come on atsch. BTW Tito was 40-0 when he fought Bernard. So JC is more of a legend because he beat Kessler, Lacy and Eubank, WOW!, no one could beat those guys ATG material indeed.

 

Maybe that is b'cause you think that his weight is light-heavy and Tarver was his first 175 pounder in years ( I dare to say even from his pro debut loss)... I want to see how Calzaghe is gonna get inside the distance with such ease or is not this the reason these threads are all about?

The prime elite fighter at their natural weight can be used for many middleweight champions, namely Marvin Hagler.

Hopkins has fought Trinidad, Dela Hoya, Winky Wright, Tarver, Glen Johnson and of course the loss to Jones and *losses* to Jermain Taylor. He also fought all the non-descript middleweight contendors in Antwun Echols twice, Robert Allen twice, Keith Holmes for the WBC, former 3 time WBA champ William Joppy.

His title defence record began with an ACTUAL title - the IBF title. And he unified whilst MAINTAINING all the belts - WBC, WBO, WBA, and IBF... No need to be stripped or avoid certain fighters.

Joe, on the other hand, was making defences of a title at the time (especially considering the division's weakness at the time) that would be considered probably LESS THAN the IBO today.

So yeah, Hopkins is CERTAINLY a legend. Especially in comparison to his upcoming opponent.

 

both are legendary but right now, and regardless of the result in April, Hopkins is ahead.

Calzaghe can surpass Hopkins with another big win and if say Kessler comes back strong and carves himself a legacy

 

Personally I could care less how many other great fighters he's fought in their prime. Most great fighters haven't done that. But even before becoming known before knocking out Trinidad his level of competition was pretty consistently good. Very few big names, but they were all at least rated highly by the IBF.
