How does Andre Berto do against the big guys in the welterweight division. Let's say Cotto, Margo, and Williams?

    Who can he beat?

He's got a great combination of speed & power, and pretty good reflexes and stamina. He's gifted physically.

But he needs to work on his defense, his chin is still a bit suspect after the Rivera knockdown, where he was out on his feet almost, but thankfully for him it was at the end of the round and he got an extra minute's rest.

He looks a bit susceptible to a good counter shot, and also while his reflexes can do him well, he needs to work on employing a tight guard as a back-up solution. If he can work on his defence, he can go a long way.

But for now, all three of those guys knock him out.

I understand your assessment of Berto. Unfortunately, your vision of Berto does not mesh well with Reality, heres why:
    Berto has blinding speed (great)

Berto has horrible stamina(despite being hyped otherwise)

Berto has an extremely poor sense of timing and distance

Berto has extremely mediocre or even poor technique

Berto has very overrated or mediocre power

    Berto has borderline mongoloid intelligence

Berto has been matched with fighters that he can beat and beat fairly easily. I think that is easily understood. Berto for the most part is alot of hype. Because of the above stated things Berto will fail against top tier WWs and a couple fighters that have mastered a few of the things Berto hasnt.......One being Collazo, who has an extremely solid skillset, is crafty and has stamina that makes Berto seem like a 4 round HW fighter

I think he has obvious talent, strong prescence and decent power, but i dont think his chin has been tested and i want to see him in with a decent opnent. Luis Collazo fits the bill.

I think US promoters have to be careful where they put there young contenders and title holders as they may find themselves without an American talisman. De La Hoya, Mosley, RJJ, Hopkins, Mayweather etc are retireing and I dont see any obvious replacements for them.

Taylor and Pavlik have a good oppotunity but both have hit stumbling blocks, we have said goodbye to Lacy and there is not one single American heavyweight that is worth paying to see.

As for berto he has done well so far but he is in a stacked division, if he keeps his belt for a few defences against good comp then we can talk about him being the future.

While I agree with some of the points you make, I think Berto's stamina is fine. He was as fresh and throwing shots every bit as crisp in the 12th round as in the 1st against forbes. His WORKRATE is terrible. He takes too many mid-round breaks where he has no output, but his stamina cannot at this point be called into question.

janeschicken, you honestly just illustrated that he does infact have **** stamina....please bro rewatch that fight
After the 4th ****ing round Berto was spent to ****, clinching, smothering his work:deal Again the 4TH ROUND!!! He was clearly gassed.....Part of the reason his workrate is so horrible is mainly do to his poor stamina:deal :good

imho, right now I don't think he beats any of them. He needs a better defense to hang in there with the elite.

Would have liked to see him take some more development fights before getting his hands on a title, because now that he has the title, he has an obligation to fight the best. Berto has been hyped to the point where people think he would be giving Mayweather trouble. Make no mistake, Berto is good, but Mayweather would make him look like an amateur. He needs to develop much more before we'll see the best of him.

Honestly Tommy, not really. I was all aboard the Berto train until watching his last fight. The things I stated above are very Real....again he's been matched with opponents that make him appear much better than he really is.....but the **** stamina is incredibly obvious:yep

At no point in the fight did I ever think berto was legitimately winded, so I'll have to go back and watch, but if his stamina was really that suspect, I think it would have translated into the rest of the fight. I don't think low workrate necessarily = poor stamina. It just means lower punch output and fighting in bursts, picking spots. Jones did it all the time in his prime and you can't tell me his stamina was ever in question.

Trust me bro. He was winded, gassed, whatever you want to call it....When a fighter is clinching repeatedly after the 4th round you have to ask yourself "Why is he doing that?" Well he's not John Ruiz or Ricky Hatton so he must be tired!!!
There is really no other excuse for clinching after the 4th round, there just isnt. Then you see him in his corner and hes huffing

I agree with you about stamina and workrate but in this case they are clearly linked....Jones was different all together and shouldnt warrant comparison but for shits and grins...Jones was/is a counterpunching, timing master something Berto isnt at all really
