It can't just be to skill alone though. According to the definition that was recited to me by many of the British posters here Calzaghe should never have been popular with the British fight fans simply because of his unappealing style. The Lacy fight was what many consider a very dull and one-sided 12 round beatdown that can hardly be called competitive nor exciting. I just don't get it: Why wasn't Calzaghe throughout his entire career regarded as a boring and downright dull fighter by the British? What was it that made Calzaghe popular in the UK -- other than his citizenship?
