Lets assume Fedor and Sylvia fight and Fedor armbars him and then fights Cro Cop agian and dominates him agian then fights the winner of Rizzo-Barnett wins that would you be ok with him retiring ? Would he have anymore to prove ? Frankily I dont even care about the Couture fight anymore the more months go by with Couture getting older I just lose interest.

I don't ever want to see Couture fight again. I feel he backed out on his word with the UFC, he signed the contract and should have fulfilled his part of it. I hate athletes that do that ****.

As a Couture fan im also very disapointed. I remember when he signed to fight Sylvia he promised he would fight the full 4 fight contract with the UFC. He could be training right now for that 4th fight keeping sharp for the Fedor fight.

Well there is always something to prove, by the time those 3 fights happen there would be something else that would significantly add to his legacy, you just have to pick a point where you are ok with your legacy and call it a day.

The only one of those fights that would add a huge piece to his legacy would be Couture. Sylvia and Barnett would both be great additions, but there would be equally impressive things to do after that.

Basically you can never prove absolutely everything, but beating Couture would be a great stopping point. Not that I think he should retire, but its not like Barnett and Sylvia would leave him with no more challenges, there will always be more challenges.

Fighters are independent contractors, and the contracts are usually writen so that the only thing that is binding is the pay, there are alot of ways for either side to get out of the contract, there is usually just a monetary penalty. Its not like he is endentured to fight for the UFC, and its not like the UFC has to keep him around, either party can pretty much leave whenever they chose, the sticking point is the penalty.

I agree. The Couture fight has lost it's buzz. Couture has become old and inactive. Now he'd need to reprove whether he could handle such a lay off. I dunno. The sparks not there much.

    Thanks Dana.

PS - I'm into hype so if they made the fight, I'd probably still wet myself.

I wish Couture would have agreed to go ahead and fight Minotauro.

    I want to see Fedor-Couture.

Sure, he COULD not do it, but he should. Couture has a legitimate claim to the best HW in the world, holding the UFC title and all. I'm not saying he IS the HW champ, or that he could beat Fedor, but it is kinda like in boxing having two ABC belt holders without either holding the linear title. Just because one is seemingly better than the other, and has a better record, it doesn't necessarily make him a true champion.

I want to see them fight.

Couture is my second favorite fighter but you can't be THE champion when you're "hit or miss" every other fight.

Well if you hit "the" champion, you are "the" champion until you miss. I mean Serra isn't in the same universe as GSP, but he was the true champion for a while.

Of course Couture hasn't hit the champion yet, so its all just me talking.

Then we have completely different definition of "TRUE" champion.

Well who was the true champion after the true champion lost?

In my definition true champion is the best in the division. I think in Serra's case he never was a true champion.
