Not the best of cards but decent for a first attempt? Dang those are some dam good cards. And Bustamante? I thought he was retired? I take it Kang's been released from the UFC as well? And Carlos Newton really doesnt need to be fighting anymore.
Wow not too shabby. Glad to see Filho/Kang is finally happening even if its four years since they were supposed to meet in the finals of the 2006 Pride WW GP.
IFC has literally picked up all the left over talent that and names that aren't in the UFC and SF. There are some good names there.
Anyone think they will last long? Has to be a bit of money getting some of those guys over to Aus and even getting them onto a card would cost a few.
I'm interested in both cards. :good Two questions: Is there a large MMA audience in Oz? Will the IFC be airing these on PPV in the US or will we have to figure out a way to watch online?
In order to entice names like that there must be some significant funding behind it. I dont know who the benefactor is or how long they'll be around but im interested in the answer to this question. Odd place to chose for a debuting promotion though. Would have made more sense if it was in Japan or US at least.
I was thinking that as well, Japan and the US look the most obvious places to start up. I read a few things after seeing it was held in Australia according to some reports the UFC card there was a sell out at the biggest indoor arena in Aus. This is from Wikipedia so its not that reliable.
I want to have faith in Filho but it's hard in Bitetti Combat 7 he said that he wanted to test himself against Shogun :!::!::!: I think he was high :think
While many of these fighters may be becoming irrelevant due to age, losses, lack of competition or failed steroid tests, they are still big names to the hardcore fan. Impact Fighting Championships have done well to put these cards together, I'll be sure to check them out.
I worry the IFC will only have some hardcore fans like us who know about it thus they fold quickly. To be honest with you I don't want the IFC to do well. I don't want too many big orgs as it will stop fights happening. I would like the competative architecture of loads of small orgs and guys trying to get signed by SF or UFC. Two big orgs is healthy for competition but any more and you'll see a repeat of the joke that is boxing.
The fighters go where the money is its that simple. Thats why PRIDE was so succesful. That simple concept will never change.
