Jose Santa--Other than being big, he was not that much. His two big ko wins on a cut caused by a butt against Maloney and Hans Birkie retiring because of a broken hand. I don't want to be smarmy, but Santa was little more than a big oaf. Baer taking to the 10th to get him out of there is nothing to get excited about. DeKuh had 33 ko's in 62 fights, but was just another big trial horse. He was never as good as Ten Hoff or Nauhaus. And Baer went the full ten with him, suffering a severe cut, and according to the Oakland Tribune, many of the spectaters did not agree with Baer getting the decision. A year after this fight, DeKuh was ko'd in 1 by puffed up middle Mickey Walker. Ten Hoff was bigger than DeKuh and Ingo got him out of there in one minute. Ten Hoff also had a more impressive statistical ko record-28 ko's in 32 victories and 43 fights. As for Comiskey, he was younger when he took on Baer than Vingo was when he took on Marciano. I guess he had "enough" fights but to toss a 19 year old kid in against a murderous punching ex-champ? I think his manager should have gone to jail. Comiskey was considered a great prospect, but never quite panned out, although he did score some ko's of second tier guys after the war.
Ten Hoff was 36 years old,and had lost 3 of his last 6 fights. Neuhaus too, was done,` he had one more fight after INGO, being stopped by Westphal ,whom Liston used as a yo yo. Freidrich was having his 40th fight against Ingo ,he had won 21 of them.Howard King had Freidrich down 14 times in 10 rds.
