Probably not, he strung together a couple goods, but when he was matched up against Gomez a little over a year ago, he was easily outboxed. I'm a fan of McCall's, I just can't see him being able to climb that ladder to the top again. If I remember correctly, McCall was the WBC mandatory and didn't have to take the fight against Gomez, but chose to stay active, unfortunately that caused him a chance at being the WBC champ again.

    Hes done imo.

He looked bad vs Gomez, I think I gave him maybe 3 or 4 rounds or so, hes just kinda slower now and seems like he relys on his chin and power to win fights, which isnt enough. Guys like Chagaev, Klits, and Ibragimov can beat him quit easily imo if they don't get cought with a huge right hand.

He still looks in good shape, impressive.

McCALL nearly knocked Gomez out in the later rounds.

No problem Chuffy, I love finding articles on guys like McCall. It is always nice to hear what's up with them and if they are to continue or not.

Yes, sadly this is the way that it went down. I was totally pissed off when he chose to fight Gomez again. He should have known that his speed, while never that good to begin with, would be his bane vs. a decent boxer such as Gomez. Damn, if only he would have foreseen this...:-(

    Damn.

Didn't know much about him, thought he might be a prospect.

I like McCall but realistically I don't think the guy is ever gonna reach contender status again.

I'm not gonna say he should retire though, his chin can stand up to whatever anyone throws at him so. :smoke

I know, I was totally stoked upon hearing that McCall had a son going into pro heavyweight boxing, and was totally ready to see some of his father's talent shine in him, but if he got a draw against that dude last night, then he couldn't be much of a prospect. Here is the only fight I could find of his:

McCall's big right hand and possibly the greatest Heavyweight chin of alll-time, got him past some pretty tough competition. His win's over the likes of Awkinwande, Sam, and obviously Lewis, are what most will remember him for beating. For being like 43-44, the man seems to be in wonderful shape and he having somewhat having a name could possibly get him a decent fight against a Golota or a Austin, but it would take at least a couple years before he could be ranked high enough to get a shot IMO, and I dont know if he got the time to wait. McCall/Peter would of been one hell of a scrap, too bad it didn't happen.

I like McCall but he's never been the most clever guy, nor were his managers (or they just didn't give a **** about him). At this point McCall is slower than ever and can be outboxed easily, just like the unfocused and poorly prepared Gomez did. But McCall can still bang and got the hardest chin in boxing, like it was said above, so he has a chance against every puncher in the game. He could still get some good paydays fighting guys like Samuel Peter, Lamon Brewster, maybe even Chris Arreola or Valuev. But don't put him into the ring with boxers, like Gomez, Chambers etc...
