Invasion of the Bodyjabbers

There have been many fighters who have used their jab effectively to the head, not as a range-finder or a defensive detterent, but as a weapon, thrown consistently through the fight and designed to bust guys up, control the fight, and start attacks.

Jabbing to the body seems to be used far more sporadically by the few who utilize it often, and with a less destructive purpose and effect over the course of a fight.

What fighters have you ever seen use jabs to the body consistently all through a fight, do it well, so that the effects of this tactic contribute to the eventual result in a big way?

    Examples appreciated. :bbb

Willie Pep used the jab to the body quite a bit from what I've seen.

McCallum by a distance, continual use of the 1-2 to the body. Mayweather uses it, not sure it slows anyone down that much though, perhaps a bit

Nazim Richardson got Mosley to use it beautifully against Margarito.

They're the sort of jabs Pep threw.

Yeah, Pep used it very effectively in some of the clips I've seen of him. Shanes body jab against Margarito was just so surprising though, he's never been much of a jabber throughout his whole career and then at the age of 37 he can still adapt to employ this new tactic into his game which helps him whoop the no. 1 welterweight in the world!

Mayweather jnr has always used that punch well. He throws it as regularly as any fighter I've seen.

Zora Foley used it against an elusive Ali, best bet to connect to an especially mobile target that night...

And I think I recall Jimmy Young using it against George Foreman but for a different reason, to halt George's advance, stop him stiff with a jab to the chest.

they stop you setting up there a frustrating punch. Pep was the master of these things.

I been working in the gym with a guy who im helping with his jab and i got him jabbing to the body, so ill tell him to watch these guys.

Mosley using it against Margarito was most surprising.

I have always liked Mosley, but didn't fancy his chances in this one having been outboxed by Cotto and, on my card, behind against Mayorga until the last second.

But.... in hindsight I think the Cintron and Cotto fights took something from Margarito and gave him false ideas as to how good he was - I don't buy this **** about cheating, having worked with plaster of paris it wouldn't make hardly any difference.... he was just outboxed, outslugged, outeverything'd really - most guys would look to outbox Margo but to just hang in the pocket and slug him.....
