Easy there man. I think it's unfair criticism. It's not his fault that the competition sucked when he dominated the division. :smoke

 

Sure it isn´t but that also means the we don´t know how he would do against better opposition and that hurts his standing h2h. He lost against Holy while beeing a big favourite and Holy was past his best himself - to be more specific, Holy was said to be finished then. The only hw of atg calibre he faced with the exception of Lewis but I won´t bring that beating up.
For me that´s an indication that he wouldn´t fare well against the greatest hws - especially not with his mental issues, guys like Ali and Johnson would have beaten him before setting a foot into the ring just because of these issues.

 

Tyson was never the same after the Buster Douglas lost and I would think before that he would have beaten any heavyweight out there. He always had the power and speed to do it. :bbb

 

Does anyone agree/disagree with my initial post, that RJJ was as close to invincible as it can get, at 168lbs?

 

BS. He already slipped the 2 years before Douglas. Less headmovement, worse footwork, slightly less combinations, less dedication. Douglas just exposed this but it was there before. And he always had mental issues, not only after the Douglas loss. There was some **** going on even early in his career but his camp hided it. He was great, no question but he just fell short of guys like Louis, Ali, Marciano and a few others, mostly due to his mental issues not his talent and skill.

Michael Spinks? He fought good opposition in one of the best light-heavyweight eras ever. He's probably a top 5 LHW all-time.

Moorer and Mosley, yes, I agree, their opposition at light-heavy and lightweight weren't very good.

 

Why did you lump Spinks in there with Moorer and Mosley? He faced and defeated almost everyone there was to beat in one of the best eras for LHW's in the history of the sport.

 

Joe Louis during his twelve year reign. Maybe Roy Jones Jr during his prime.

 

After the Tony Tucker fight, a solid victory for Mike Tyson if I may say so, his next 4 fights helped built up what was perceived to be an air of invincibility. In that stretch Tyson stopped all 4 opponents and notched the two biggest wins of his career against Holmes and Spinks.
