True. The only decent one that he fought was Vanes Martirosyan and he lost by a wide UD - losing every round according to one of the judges. Still he must have a good dig on him with the number of KOs - just curious if anyone had seen footage of him as I couldnt find anything on youtube.

 

Any news on the next Dublin bill be it Peters or whoever?

Also any news on if Setanta are doing any more shows maybe Magees next fight would be good did they do good numbers last time out?

 

Should make for an entertaining fight anyway. The Duddy camp have really hyped this guy up to be decent though, If Duddy is goin to do anything big in the next year or so he needs to beat this guy convincingly.

 

Duddy's manager was quoted in the paper the other day as saying that Duddy is in the shape of his life - so all bodes well. Hopefully Duddy can look great in this fight as it is an excellent card for him to be fighting on and he could kick on from here.

 

Heard it is meant to be the end of April.....in the Stadium....
I think Tommy Egan is still going ahead on 17th of april too.....Which is only 4 weeks away so he might want to start getting things tied down and Advertising and so on....

 

Lads I hope Duddy wins and I hope he goes on and achieves things. But this 'oh look at Duddys opponent, he's only fought bums' thing doesn't hold up. Duddy hasn't exactly fought a vast array of superstars either. Last time I checked Duddy hasn't exactly fought a vast array of superstars and also got rolled over by a 20-8 (ish) fighter. So Medina IS a test for him. Lets just not get too over excited about anything until Duddy can put some wins together again and preferably meaningful wins this time

Italian job for Hyland

Irish champion Paul Hyland is relishing his ‘Italian Job’ on March 12, when the 25-year-old tackles veteran David Chianella for the vacant EU super-bantamweight crown.
Leaving the relative comfort zone of Tallaght and travelling to Chianella’s Naples home presents no issues for the confident Dubliner.
“I’ve no problems going over to Italy,” explained Paul, “I travelled abroad as an amateur and sometimes you have to go and grab the title. Italy, and especially Chianella’s backyard, holds no fear for me.
“I watched two or three rounds of him on DVD but I don’t generally watch a great deal of my opponents in action. My team will take a look at him and work out a game plan. I’ll get in the ring and do my thing on fight night.”
Father/trainer Paddy Hyland realised that attempting to match the Italian power brokers in the purse bids was a futile exercise, yet remains fully confident of Paul’s ability to outbox the Italian and bring the belt home.
“There's absolutely no doubt that Paulie's in great shape,” declared Paddy.
“The Italians were chancing us a bit by asking for the fight to take place in early January but we wanted six weeks preparation for such a big fight, with a title on the line. We couldn't match them at purse bids so we'll happily travel but the date we have now (March 12) is a lot more realistic.”
David Chianella is somewhat of a nearly man on the European scene although the 36-year-old sports a respectable 16-5-2 (5 KO’s) slate.
Interestingly, he has been stopped in four of those losses and Hyland will be buoyant following a third round mauling of Eugene Heagney that cemented his Irish level credentials.
Chianella is the Italian featherweight champion and won the lightly regarded WBF Mediterranean belt in his last outing. Two of his last four losses though have been via the short route, which suggests he has peaked.
Hyland senior has invested in some high quality sparring to ensure full preparation for his man.
“Paul’s been sparring John Simpson and Ricky Burns, four rounds apiece,” he added. “Last week he did 10 rounds with the Cuban Alexei Acosta. We're flying out on Tuesday and confidence is high.”
Scotland’s Simpson is Commonwealth featherweight champion while Ricky Burns challenges for the WBO title on April 24 at a UK venue. Paddy also revealed that Burns –who is naturally big for a super-featherweight- was surprised by the toughness and resolve of Paul during the sparring session.
“The work with Burns, Simpson and Acosta has really sharpened me up,” admitted Paulie.
“The whole camp has gone really well and I’m looking forward to taking my opportunity. I was on the weight on Saturday and it’s all about relaxing now, the hard work’s been done.”
A manager’s work, on the other hand, is never done and Paddy Hyland has been busy trying to get ring time for his other sons, Patrick and Eddie, as well as middleweight charge Robbie Long.
“We are always looking to get work for our boys,” he said.
But for this week at least, it will be the youngest of the trio that occupies the interest of Irish boxing fans.
“I’m a 25-year-old who’s maturing into a proper professional fighter,” enthused Paulie.
“The time is right for me to step-up into the big league, starting in Italy on March 12.”

 

the IABA reckoned having novices and the womens fights would ensure a sell out on "all" nights. I was there for the quarters-15 yoyo in?? and the final on Fri and it was empty the first few nights and not full Fri...

its a joke- there should be only one final night and it should be way cheaper... id hate to have to fight on sat knowing you had no hope of TV... then again id hate to be fighting full stop id get the head taking off me id say

 

Was told yesterday the only certain thing about Magees next fight is it will be on Sky

 

Lads hate to say it, but it looks like Tommy Egan's show might be postponed... he has struggled sponsorship wise.. he has sponsors but they want to wait before parting with cash...

It could be a sign of things to come- after having a record number of shows last year we might have hardly any this time round.....

Tommy had tv (ten hours of it with garanteed repeats) a strong card but just no sponsors... he is adamant he will have the show after the summer- It could be time for a major rethink in how shows are run....
