I cant help but feel that the girls in that ad for a popular brand of ketchup - or red sauce as it is more popularly known - will regret their choice in the years to come.

 

Please please please! We need Phil and David O pro!! I assume Phil will eventually go pro since Senior is part of DolPhil. As you said both will struggle for funding and cant say either will make it to the Euros this year(think thats the next big one?). Yeah Phils only 21 and whats David now? 23ish? Cmon to **** lads 2 very exciting fighters made for the pro game! You think they might hang around and try win something big(ish) before they go try go pro? to kinda make them more sought after ya know?

 

When she is lookin for that deposit for a flat in Lucan how is she going to react when Heinz call security after she it told to "do one!" from their offices! But she has made her bed.........

 

Actually thinking of all this white collar stuff it can whip up a bit of interest. You could have Slappy v Steve W on a card to whip up some hype. Yiz both look as malnourished as each other so we could have it at Lightweight :deal

 

is Darren Barker an option, presumably this fight would be a nice little earner

 

Darren Barker needs to seriously do a career re-think in my opinion. Loyalty is one thing but without TV Hennessy is going to see some of his fighters stagnate. Carl Froch has been saved by Showtime and the Super Six, and is a bigger star in the States than his own country.

Tyson Fury is fighting human punchbags on the depths of a Maloney card and John Murray and his trainer Joe Gallagher always seem to be in dispute with Meaty Mick everytime you pick up a copy of Boxing News.

Ok, ok not Irish boxing related I know :nut but...Andy Lee vs. Darren Barker would be a tasty little encounter, especially as an eliminator for a crack at the European. People have been talking about both guys fighting Macklin so stick them in with one another and let's see who's got it.

 

Met with Martin Lindsay today - he is an absolute gentleman, one of the nicest lads I have met and I am an even bigger fan of his now. I would love to see him go all the way and am glad I decided to head over to the fight next week.

Just read the Article......Great interview and i heard he was a real nice, Down to earth bloke.........On another note, He was talking about a fight with Pajo Hyland and he was saying "he (Pajo) cant fight for the british title" Well after some digging around....Pajo actually can fight for the British title....He can get a british passport tomorrow if needed as his mother is British born (A boxer must be in possesion of a british passport to compete for a British Title).....
So hopefully down the line they can actually fight for either the British, Irish, European or even the IBF eliminator as Lindsay was saying is a possability for him

Sure only time will tell i guess.........

 

A really enjoyable read, Brendan. I think you're right - Lindsay could be the one close to being a breakout star for Irish sport.

I've been reading the thread with interest the last few days, specifically about the vicious circle promoters find themselves in. I think BamBam is on the money, but Cormac and Steve are 100% correct about fighters and promoters needing to present the whole package a bit better.

The Hylands are the epitome of the problem. Three talented good-looking lads, three champion brothers, articulate and from the capitol city. But twice they have appeared at the Basketball Arena in their own backyard and the place wasn't even half full each time. I hate to sound critical of them - Eddie is one of my favourites in all of boxing and the ever gracious and obliging Daddy Hyland is superb whenever an interview or comment is needed - but I am pessimistic when I see the Irish public, media and sports people completely ignore such an obvious one. Could they be doing more to market themselves better? I think so.

I think Lindsay would be a marketing guru's dream if the money men just took notice and looked outside of rugby for a minute. Legions of fans, good-looking, mannerly and a rocket launcher in his fists when detonated.

Even our own Carlito - has there been a bigger breath of fresh air in Irish boxing in recent times? Comes on here, like one of the lads, breaks balls, gets his own balls busted, and always corresponds in a friendly fashion. Talks a lot of sense about the sport and we all know he can dig too. Also transcends two communities, the embodiment of 21st century Ireland.

Translate that to the mainstream somehow, and we have a winner. Anyone who, loik, attended the Institute of Morkeshing in Portobello, feel free to interject now and tell us where to go next to build a star. Because the time is nigh for us all to get our learn on.

Whether it involves school visits, hospital visits, inviting kids from boxing clubs to shows for free, etc, I'd like to hear some suggestions.

 

If Pajo is serious about fighting for the British title he should pick up that British passport as quick as he can. No point saying 'I'm eligible to fight for the title as soon as I pick up the passport', why have that little thing holding him back.......go out there and get it and say 'Im eligible to fight for the British title'
